Could DWTS be postponed due to the WGA strike?

In the weeks leading up to the DWTS premiere, there was certainly a lot in doubt as to whether the show would go on. With so many shows like The Drew Barrymore Show, The Talk and Bill Maher’s Real Time reversing their decisions to go back into production with their talk shows until the strike is resolved, DWTS could have followed suit.

The show drummed up controversy when it was revealed that participating in the series would be technically "scabbing" for WGA members, as it is a contracted show. This directly conflicted with one of its contestants, Matt Walsh. Walsh chose to walk away from the show until the strike was resolved to avoid putting his WGA status in jeopardy.

Luckily, with the announcement that the WGA and AMPTP had reached a tentative agreement on Sunday night, ABC announced that Dancing with the Stars would proceed as planned, and that Walsh would still be a part of the cast.

Make that big fat NO. In a surprise announcement on March 17, 2023, former supermodel Tyra Banks announced she would be quitting the Disney Plus reality series to spend more time behind the camera, not in front of it.

"I think my heart, my soul is into my business, it's also into producing new TV," she told TMZ. "I really, really want to focus on my business and you can't do that hosting a show, so you'll see me creating things, not just hosting."

Back during DWTS Season 29, longtime hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews were fired. Subsequently Tyra Banks took their place. In her three seasons as host—and later co-host—the creator of America's Next Top Model drew much criticism from the DWTS fanbase.

This will be the third different role she has had with the show, dancing as a pro for five seasons (and winning Seasons 4 and 5), as well as serving as a judge from 2014 to 2017. Julianne will take Alfonso's spot in the skybox and talk to couples after their dances.

What's happening behind the scenes on Dancing with the Stars?

There's also been shakeups behind the scenes at Disney/ABC since the series fired longtime hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews.
