Ex-Legislative Councillor Cyd Ho released from Lo Wu Correctional Institution after serving 21 months of custodial sentence

11th June 2022 – (Hong Kong) Former 612 Humanitarian Relief Fund trustee and former Labour Party ex-Legislative Councillor Cyd Ho was released from prison this morning. She was charged with multiple crimes for participating in illegal assemblies in 2019 and 2020. She was sentenced to a total of 21 months. She left Lo Wu Correctional Institution at 9.30am this morning. She was greeted by Emily Lau of the Democratic Party, Raphael Wong,  formerly the chairman of the League of Social Democrats, Avery Ng,  chairman of the League of Social Democrats and etc.

She said that her fellow inmates were very diligent, and they encouraged her to study in prison. She studied four psychology subjects, and she said that “Prison is a good place to study psychology because there are so many different editions.” She pointed out that if there is a chance in the future, she also hopes to help other inmates rehabilitate.

Meanwhile, Ho is also one of the five trustees of the 612 Humanitarian Relief Fund. She was arrested by the National Security Department of the police last month, along with Cardinal Joseph Zen, bishop emeritus of the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong, singer Denise Ho and others suspected of conspiring to collude with foreign forces or foreign forces to endanger national security. They were also accused of failing to comply with the Societies Ordinance to register the Fund. The trial will commence on 19th September.

Both Emily and Cyd Ho went for lunch after she was released from prison. They have known each other since 1991.
