In 2009/2010 my wife and I lived in Hong Kong for a year. Now, in 2011, we have returned for an eight month stay. We now live in Harbour Front Horizon Hotel and last time we lived in nearby Harbour View Horizon. Crystal Harbour Restaurant...is located on the third floor of Harbour View - the restaurant is a five minute walk from our current address. I am happy to note that the Crystal Harbour has not lost one bit of its fine character over the three years I have frequented it. We have used it for the two of us alone, and with as many as twenty of our family for big affairs. I know the restaurant serves good food for two big reasons: (1). My wife and I REALLY like it and (2) My wifes extended family REALLY likes it and they travel a good distance to visit Crystal Harbour even when we are absent. They open for weekday lunch at noon. We have seen the main dining room fill up fast after 1 PM with a stylish clientele. The food is definitely Cantonese. What sets the food apart, however, is the way the Chef manages to serve everything as if it was just cooked a minute ago. The lunchtime dim-sum style food has a delicate characteristic in the presentation, texture and flavor. Their freshly cooked fish are always served perfectly prepared. The menu choices are extensive and the Chef can arrange for special requests provided that adequate notice is provided. The soups are especially good although the deserts tend to be (in typical Hong Kong fashion) a bit on the sweet side. Costs? I think they are very reasonable considering the fine foods and generous portions. The past two visits averaged about $28USD (with tips) for three adults to enjoy a hearty lunch and my two Heineken beers. We even managed to make a light supper out of the 'doggie bag' leftovers. When we receive visitors from the USA we are quick to treat them to this restaurant: Invariably they want to return a second time before they leave for home. The staff is somewhat limited in their command of English, but there is an extensive picture/English/Chinese menu card available. My favorite three wait staff (Micheal, Kelly and Raymond) remembered me from my previous year stint in Hong Kong and always greet me with a quick friendly hello. The location may seem a bit out of the way from Hong Kong Island, but if you are staying in Kowloon, Hung Hom is a major subway/tube/train station. Catch a quick, five minute cab from the station if you are unfamiliar with the Harbor View Hotel area. You will find it an easy ten - fifteen minute walk back to the station. Call ahead for large gatherings. Call ahead on Saturday and Sunday to be sure they have a table - as Crystal Harbour is increasingly popular for wedding receptions. (The place is very photogenic as its contemporary Chinese decor is simple yet elegant.) Oh yes - they do have an extensive "take-away' menu too. They accept VISA and MasterCard. If you are driving, they will provide a voucher for the Hotel Carpark.More
