Die zerflederte Bestandsaufnahme einer Nacht eines alteingesessenen Cops (Thomas Jane) mit seinem Rookie .
Nach dem fulminanten (filmtechnischen) Auftakt eines Überfalls inklusive Polizistenmorde wird es dann ruhiger, und man wird mit der Routine einer typischen amerikanischen Nacht konfrontiert wie betrunkene Fahrerinnen, tieffliegenden Pflastersteinen, Drogenverkauf usw.
der durchdrehende psychopathische Kollege darf natürlich auch nicht fehlen und der Zuseher weiss natürlich auch schon längst, vorauf der (zu lange) Film hinausläuft: die Konfrontation des ungeleichen Paares mit den Copkillern.
Die erste Nacht des Neulings, Machtmissbrauch, wiedermal Rassismus, moralisches Dillema.......all dies erzählt der Film in einer nicht gerade homogenen Art und Weise, der Funke mag nicht so recht überspringen, allzu spannend ist es auch nicht wirklich geworden.

Average in a good kinda way cops driving around at night, newbie being broken in by an old hardened cop.. This feels like a TV pilot in a way to me but maybe because it reminds me of shows.. a little bit like The end of watch too..

A good looking, well performed film that, while decent, never quite feels fully formed. It either should have hewed more closely to the "night in the life" format and left it at that or delved a little deeper into the story of the kidnapped child. For a nearly two hour film it feels like there's a lot of wheel spinning and it lacks the momentum you want from something like this.
The only reason I gave this a go in the first place was it starred an old favorite in Tom Jane. I've been a fan since I first saw him in Boogie Night and I hate that his filmography of late has largely been comprised of direct to DVD…
Maverick cop shows idealistic rookie the ropes on his first shift, who slowly realises there's a lot more to the job and his partner than he thought. Lots of brutality, horrible people and a lack of light. So it really is...wait for it...

Crown Vic is the latest cop-centered film to give me the fix I crave after The Shield ended in 2008 after 7 seasons (which I watched 3 times), and subsequently Southland, which ended in 2013 after 5 seasons.
End of Watch, and the more recent Triple 9, briefly gave me a slice of that gritty, dirty, violent world that I enjoy watching from the comfort of my couch, as I marvel at the adrenaline that must be pumping through these guys on almost every shift whenever they get called to an incident.
A lot goes down in Crown Vic, which is a lot for a single evening's shift, but then it wouldn't justify making a movie otherwise.

"Crown Vic" bebildert einen Nachtdienst auf den Straßen einer amerikanischen Großstadt. Nicht mehr, nicht weniger... oder doch nicht?
Suhlt sich in einem nicht hinetrfragenden Realismus, denn die Antwort kann der Film nicht abschließend liefern. Thomas Jane's Monolog mag gesamtgessellschaftlich wenig befriedigend sein, aber der Einzelne brauch nun mal seine Rechtfertigung für seine Taten.
Problem: Jane tut in dieser Nacht Dinge die über seinen eigenen Dienst hinausgehen und führt die Nachvollziehbarkeit ad absurdum, so sehr die Tat auf emotionaler Ebene nachvollziehbar ist. (und ich als Zuschauer geradezu herbeigesehnt hab, mein reaktionärer Filmgeist verlangte danach!)
Und der "Rookie" im Wagen wird sich der Realität nicht mehr verschliessen können.…
Always love seeing Thomas Jane in the driver's seat (literally and figuratively) and once again, he brings his A game. This isn't one of the greatest movies he's been in, though it packs some heat in a couple departments. Alright I'm done with the police puns.
Crown Vic tells the "story" of two cops on patrol, one veteran and one rookie. I put story in quotations because the plot is very bare bones, if you can call it that. There is one overarching conflict, but it only gets brought up at the beginning and end of the movie: two cop killing robbers are on the loose. Somehow they are never mentioned throughout the night.

A familiar premise, a perfectly solid execution... the film earns extra points for giving Thomas Jane a lead role and for taking what would be main storylines in other films -- a pair of cop killers! a violently dirty cop! -- and instead letting them exist as mere threads throughout the night.
