Is there a reason why you’re not interested in Steins;Gate? As someone who has read over 40 visual novels, Steins;Gate is easily in my Top 5

Now I wanna know your top 5 list

Edited

sure, my top 5 at the moment is

  • Steins;Gate (and S;G0 as well)

  • 999

  • Clannad

  • 9-nine

  • Baldr Sky

I also really enjoyed Chaos;Child, Higurashi and Aokana.

I already watched the anime and i think it was good, but did not care too much for the history to go see the VN. That includes Steins;Gate 0 too.

I refuse to accept this response. The alternate endings were really good. Steins Gate 0 anime left out a WHOLE LOT of content too. To the point that it's considered a completely different worldline from the game. Only like 20% of the entire game was adapted. I know you won't but I hope you reconsider.

Maybe in waaaayyyyy future when i totally forget all the plot of these two.

You have a long way to go young one.

Leanne 2 of legitimate crown

Danganronpa

Oyako rankan

Dohna dohna

Steins gate

Arterial of origins

Muv luv (They say the VN is better than the anime)

Edited

started reading VN's recently, so i cant compare too much. but the best ones I have read so far has been summer pockets and clannad. didn't see summer pocket so wanted to atleast mention it (nvm found it). currently going trough muv luv but the first 2 games are kinda a mixed bag, i dont regret reading it but i dont know if I would push it on anyone either.

while the gameplay is pretty outdated i wanna give a shoutout to "danganronpa: trigger happy havoc". its bordering into proper game territory but the writing is great and it had me from start to finish.

The idea of "death game with high-school students that investigate one another" did not appeal to me at all (Death Games overall, that's why i put Danganronpa and The Nonary Games list out of my radar).

yeah, i were not really expecting to like it so much. it just really scratched my ace attorney itch in a good way. got completely sucked into the mystery and played it for 20 hours straight a weekend.

Muv Luv seems quite interesting and i like some Mecha animes like Code Geass and Gundam 00, but most of the people i know says that it has a lot of infodump so i kinda worried about not liking it.

Dies Irae in the dropped tier is my "i did not care about the Godfather" meme opinion.

Edited

first Muv Luv VN is the best written, but it does not really have a mech theme. the 2nd does have a mech theme, and while it has its moments, I actually cant recommend it. id have to break it down for more details so I'm just gonna stop at that.

I didn't feel like there were any bad infodumps myself. but maybe the third one goes hard. haven't started it yet.

From your interested list I would recommend: If My Heart Had Wings. And a more mild recommendation for Wanko to Kurasou and Sankaku Ren'ai.

Maybe I missed them but I didn't see ATRI, Planetarian, or Aokana on your list anywhere.

I second IMHHW. It's a must read.

I mean, given you enjoyed Clannad and the Type-Moon stuff you should probably check out the other Key games and Mahotsukai no Yoru?

Try Mahoyo

My two favourite VNs are Fate/hollow ataraxia and Clannad, so maybe give ataraxia a try? Both are 90% slice of life with a bit of mystery and sadness to it. (Girl and a robot / Bazett and avenger)

I dont know how you can have ddlc<nekopara xDD

But if i would must recommend something i would go with fata morgana, i know you are not interested but you should really read, it is one of the few vns that i would rate as 10/10, im in the half so things may change but i am pretty sure that vn wont go any lower than that.

Other than that i would check nitroplus catalog of games to see if something interest you because for me they rarely miss in quality of their vns.

Maybe not an official vn in vndb but i would recommend you 13 sentinels aegis rim if you didnt played it, it tells its story like a vn so you could check it out.

And please check first corpse party its a great game with the best 3d sound usage i've seen

While i don't pretend to read the other volumes of Nekopara, the Vol 1 was actually a confortable read and did not take too much time to get into. DDLC without the surprise of the 4th wall break is just a boring first slice of fife half and a cringe and predictable second half. But at least is short. 13 Sentinels seems good, i will check out some day.

If you liked Hoshizora no Memoria you should try Irotoridori no Sekai. Same developer

Ah yes, Clannad. A masterpiece.

(Me, a professional Clannad hater.)

Narcissu 1 & 2 are really good. Those just hit different. Saya no Uta & Cross Channel are also worth the read for the WTF factor alone.

Nobody talks about Blazblue, and this is my favorite visual novel). Then Dangonronpa and Ace Attorney. All parts.

Also, the stories in the gachas Reverse 1999 and Path to Nowhere are of very high quality.
