Has anyone here purchased the BICSI RCDD Test Preparation Course? Is it all online/digital material?

I was going to take the dd102 course but there’s no way I’m paying 3,000 for it. Is this test prep a good alternative or do y’all know of anything better?

Read the manual, buy an online study guide/test battery. Study as much as possible. If there is a BICSI RCDD exam scheduled for your area use that as the timetable to test. Take the boot camp/review course the week before test as the test will be offered immediately after the boot camp. That way the review material is fresh. Took me 2 whacks in 06, never looked back, Good Luck

What study guide

I just checked Boson they dont have theirs anymore but google similar and they will come with tests, flash cards etc. I'll keep looking to see what's out there.

3k sounds steep. If your company is willing to pay I say go for it, (or if you have a spare 3k laying around). I say join a study group (or create one).

The DD102 course is nice if someone else is paying for it, but it's not essential. The biggest benefit of the class is that it provides real-world design opportunities. You would be shocked at how bad the designs are in the class, even coming from experienced designers. Basically, you'll design a telecommunications room, layout the TRs and ER for a floor of a large office building, design the pathways, design the OSP pathways, and finally perform an estimate for the single-floor distribution build.

It's great stuff, but it provides context for the test, but in no way prepares you for the test.

The Test Prep Course, on the other hand, explicitly prepares you for the test. I used Cory & Steve, and I've sat in a few of the boot camps to evaluate them. All options are fine, but the test prep course is definitely the best bang for your buck.

Got it! thanks for the feedback.

Do you know the link for the Cory and Steve material/course?

In 2016 I failed 3x using Cory and Steve almost exclusively. Their pool of questions is limited and repeats often which creates familiarity and a false sense of confidence.

They don’t teach you the best design methods anyway that’s the problem with people that want to be a tightwad and take the cheap inexpensive way to pass the exam it doesn’t guarantee that you will be a better RCDD if you do pass

Looking at purchasing the flash cards and quizzes from them. Is it all digital copies or do you get hard copies?

It's all digital.

But just a reminder, the flash cards and quizzes come as part of the test prep bundle (assuming we're still talking about the BICSI test prep course).

CET material are workbooks, physical printed study Q&A. I would get package work flash cards, workbooks and class. Or make your own flash cards to help you remember more

I was about to have my company drop the cash. I knew about Cory and Steve but I assumed bicsi would prepare you for the test as well. I'll probably do C&S instead. Thanks for this tip!

u/Longjumping-Common21 avatar

I've heard same about court and Steve and BICSI. BICSI doesn't prep you for test and C&S can be repeat questions. The best combo according to my RCDD pal is CET, TDMM AND C&S as a supplement to working study guides

Totally Agree.

I'm going to buy it (my company is). According to the description it gives real world situations in which to use the tdmms.

I haven't heard if it's worth it or not though. The DD101 course was not a total waste of time. It's teaching method was pretty good. And offered some good insight.

I've heard same DD courses are great background basis info

The nice thing about the preparation course is they have you highlight all relevant test questions in the book. Then study the hell out of the highlighted sections.

From bicsi?!

The one I attended was a 3rd party course.

Can you share what it was. Name?

I took the CET course for prep and I think it's the best course hands down. Passed first try in 2017.

Did you do onsite? Prior knowledge I assume

Yes to both questions

Cetweb.com had a few choices in courses. Lots of study material provided. 1/2 the cost of others and instructors help anytime even after class.

CET does not train you to be a good RCDD all they try to do is convince you that you will pass the exam if you spend the money and go through a BICSI not only will you pass the exam but you will be a much better RCDD

u/Longjumping-Common21 avatar

Interesting. I didn't think any prep course trained you to be an rcdd. I thought we trained ourselves by learning the material

I would do the C&S. not bother with the DD102

Again stop being a tightwad and give people bad advice

How many credentials have you got, none?🤣🤣🤣

Fair point.

For me RCDD in 2019 6 months study

DCDC 4 months study & OSP 3 months study. Both in 2020

Got bored in 2023 needed to be kept busy RTPM 2 months study

All passed first time attempt. The only Bicsi course completed DD102 in 2019.

If you know what you are doing, and with the experience you do not need the courses.

Its all in the book😊

I passed the exam for the RCDD in February and believe me when I tell you that the BICSI courses are the way to go

The big problem is a lot of people are cheap and they think that they can outsmart the exam just by getting some flashcards or some Cory and Steve subscription and save a few bucks

The single biggest thing holding people back is not wanting to spend the money on the proper training yeah they’ll do something stupid like buy a $100,000 Ford F150 and have a $1400 a month truck payment

And they never use the damn thing to go off Roading or throw anything in the truck bed they just want the status symbol to impress other guys

Invest in yourself buy the proper training and don’t be a cheap motherfucker

The DD102 course isn’t worth the money. It had some good information but not $3000 worth. The CET class is good but it was mainly going through the book and highlighting what they think are test questions. The teacher was flying through the manual. The CET class would be good about a week or two before your test. I didn’t like the CET flash cards. I didn’t buy the Bicsi prep but I did talk to who a guy who did. He showed me the flash cards on his phone. Their flash cards are the best. They are worded like the actual test questions. I liked Corey and Steve but the questions are not even close to the wording on the test. This is just my opinion as I have taken the test once and failed. I have been told to make sure you read the test questions twice. Hopefully this all makes sense.

I made my own flashcards based on the information, or "highlighting" from the CET class. Everything I studied on the flashcards was on the test, which is what made me successful in passing on the first try. This is the only time you have to test for an RCDD, so my point is to use the information to pass. You will always have your manual, the internet, and all other tools available to you when you are actually doing the work.

Can you buy just the bicsi flashcards

Looks like they are $225 on the Bicsi website. I thought they were a lot more.

I've heard that even the DD101 AND DD102 instructors say the courses aren't designed to help you pass RCDD test. I talked to CET and they are actually updating their flash cards to make them more impactful. http://www.cetweb.com/ still looks like the best course for value. You have to study TDMM also

[deleted]
[deleted]

This is true but you will be a better RCDD - more effective if you go through the BICSI courses

not so, you can not beat experience

More replies

This is true, the DD101 & DD102 are not designed to help pass the course.

There was a boot camp course DD200 which did this. Bicsi no longer run these courses any more.
