Detailed Reviews
The hotel is a beautiful building with a large manicured lawn right on Seneca lake. There is numerous seating right on the lake, perfect to enjoy a glass of wine. However our room was extremely dated and quite honestly more like a roadside motel than the luxury resort it is priced at. There was no bar available, under renovation, and there seemed to be a lot of repairs and construction occurring the night we were there this week. The restaurant was extremely expensive, 50.00 menu prices so we ate elsewhere.

We booked a last minute weekend trip. Although the restaurant is closed for renovations, the staff planned an intimate 5-course meal in what was the original library in this mansion. There were only 6 tables, a blazing wood fire, candlelight, and a charming sommelier who explained all of the wine pairings with our meal. The entire staff was genuinely warm and we enjoyed our conversations with them. Each course was delicious and it was one of the more memorable dinner evenings we've had. We briefly went to the bar, with its beautiful cathedral ceilings and cozy lighting. The hotel is charming; yes it's older but the grounds are huge with an expansive view of the lake. Our two bedroom suite had eclectic antique-like pieces and was fastidiously clean, despite being older. We visit the finger lakes region at least yearly and we are so happy to have found another lovely gem to visit next summer.

Some reviewers have complained about the dated accommodations. We felt that the accommodations were well suited for the property: not those associated with a modern hotel or lodge, but a place to sit back and relax and feel at home in an atmosphere of past but perhaps better times. We had a suite that included two bedrooms, a bath, a kitchen and a spacious living room. It seemed that many of the accommodations here were of a similar nature. We were greeted by a friendly staff - friendly not just when we arrived but for the duration and as we checked out. The grounds were not spectacular but quite attractive and nicely maintained. No problems here. The restaurant gave us an extremely wonderful evening of food, service and light entertainment.

Terrible management of this beautiful historic mansion is a tragedy. We paid an extremely excessive $1300 for aroom diring the eclipse event, and hotel staff made it impossible to get any peace & quiet to enable sleep.
The first night we were awoken at 11:30pm and kept up for a long time by loud bass heavy trance music that seemed to emanate from locked restaurant kitchen area. No hotel staff could be found by us on 3 trips looking, and phone for hotel & restaurant were not answered.
2nd night we had staff moving furniture above us with bangs & yelling. We did find a staffer to complain to after getting out of bed & going downstairs. Later staff was knocking on our room door, then calling to ask if our ceiling was leaking.
The restaurant & wsit staff eere rven worse, if you can believe it. Never again!

We booked 4 nights at what appeared to be a gorgeous lake front resort in the Finger Lakes. What we found was a seriously outdated overpriced sad motel. The fabric furniture and the carpeting were ancient. The suite had a kitchenette with 30 year old appliances. The Murphy bed was the deal breaker - where was that in the photos of the lovely appointed rooms? The grounds were lacking attention to detail. Quite a shame to see something so steeped in history in such a unappealing state. We refused to stay and were penalized based on the cancellation policy which is apparently the one item accurately presented on the web site.

We had the most wonderful experience during our stay. The staff is extremely accommodating and we felt like we were visiting with family during our stay. I would highly recommend Geneva on the Lake to anyone traveling to this region and would stay here again.

I just stayed at the hotel in a 2 bedroom suite. It looked like it had new carpeting.
The suite was nice; as other have mentioned, the bathroom is old and the kitchen appliances are mismatched. Everything was clean and functional. The furnishing in the rest of the suite were good quality, with all the furniture made by Stickley and decorations that made everything feel like a home.
There was bottled water in the fridge and a K cup machine.
The room was serviced during my stay.
The mattress wasn't very comfortable.
Service at the hotel was friendly.

My wife and I set out on a leisurely Saturday Drive and visited my family plots and made sure my parents were where we buried them. Weak attempt at a bad joke.
After stopping in Lyons, NY the family homestead we were hungry. Geneva is only 14 miles from Lyons on Rte 14. Geneva on the Lake is situated on the shore of Lake Seneca and is a picture perfect setting. The restaurant a vintage "Chateau" in the style of Villa Lancellotte n Italian Villa.
The meal was excellent but will blow your budget. We both had Filet Mignon which was cooked to perfection. The vegetables, a whipped potato, probably lionaise, was excellent.
Dessert, Bananas Foster was excellent. All in all It was money well spent. $$$$$
This is not a place to take children. If they behave I would say 10 years old would be the youngest.

My husband and I spent 4 nights in the Finger Lakes and had two wildly different lodging experiences. We started with two utterly delightful nights at Rowland House (one of the Inns of Aurora). Then, we moved to Geneva on the Lake and were sadly disappointed. Perhaps, I was captivated by the formal gardens, which reminded me of a hotel we love in Lake Como, but what we found was a property desperately in need of rehabilitation. Everything is in disrepair. My husband joked that we woke up in 1985. That would all be fine, except that the Inn is priced as a luxury hotel. The front desk staff were friendly but otherwise, staff seemed somewhat unprofessional in their appearance and demeanor. We chose one of the penthouses because we wanted some private outdoor space due to Covid. The inn offers almost no outdoor seating to take advantage of the lake view. There are 4 adirondack chairs looking at the lake and two ancient rocking chairs on the dock, which you get to by crossing railroad tracks...... that was definitely not included in any of the photos on the website! We will not be back and wouldn't recommend it. There are plenty of much better options nearby.

+1
This is a beautiful hotel on a gorgeous piece of property with incredible views of Geneva Lake. Plus, it’s very quiet. Add an excellent in-house restaurant - Diciannove Dieci - and it’s an ideal location to be based as you explore the incredible Finger Lakes region. And the staff are very nice & helpful.

The entire resort could use an update. The decor is outdated and in some cases just needs to be replaced. Our room had a kitchenette, the oven was out of service and the fridge was so old the entire one side was rusty. These are things that you just don't expect from a resort at this price point. The grounds are truly what makes this resort.
Pool is heated by the sun. All I know is it was cold in June.
Did not see the bar, but hairdryer S were good
I believe they do.
