Rangers fans will wince at latest BT Sport footage as Connor Goldson is pictured leaving Ibrox on crutches

After a strong first-half showing for Rangers v Liverpool, Connor Goldson limped off at Ibrox clutching his left leg.

Goldson was one of Rangers’ best performers against Liverpool on Wednesday night, with the 29-year-old doing well to keep Jurgen Klopp’s front line quiet in the first half.

However, the English centre-back was forced to the sidelines after suffering an injury to his left thigh, and he was reduced to a bystander as Rangers were pummelled by the Reds in the second half.

Leon King came in to replace the experienced defender, and it seems Giovanni van Bronckhorst may have to rely on the youngster even more in the coming weeks after footage emerged of Goldson leaving Ibrox.

As shown by BT Sport, Goldson was pictured on crutches after the full-time whistle. Seen hobbling down the touchline, Goldson looked desperate to avoid putting any weight on his left leg.

A huge blow

Goldson will be a massive miss for Rangers as they look to bounce back from Wednesday’s humiliation.

Alongside Ben Davies, Rangers actually made a strong start to the game and the likes of Darwin Nunez and Roberto Firmino were largely kept quiet in the first half.

There’s no way of telling whether Goldson could’ve helped keep the scoreline down after the break, but one thing that is for sure is that performance levels dropped after he left the pitch.

His absence will be a huge concern for Van Bronckhorst, especially as it looks to be a long-term injury. Rangers’ defensive depth now looks shoddy, with King and Davies the only natural options left at centre-back.

With five games in the next 16 days, the last thing Van Bronckhorst will want to do is have to plug holes in his defence with players playing out of position, but it looks like it’ll be forced on the Dutchman.

Depending on the scale of Goldson’s injury, there’s a good chance that he won’t feature for Rangers again until after the World Cup break, with the last league match taking place on 12 November.
