Connor Goldson says Rangers are treating the game against Celtic as a "must-win", but insists it will not decide the outcome of the Scottish Premiership title race.

Philippe Clement's side are a point behind leaders Celtic, with a game in hand, heading into the weekend's Old Firm at Ibrox.

"Yeah, it is a must-win," Goldson said. "But at the same time there’s a long way to go after this, there will still be a lot of games to play and there may be points dropped by other times. Obviously we go in treating it like a must-win game but at the same time I still think it’s not going to decide anything.

"You can see from the performances and results on the pitch, the manager has really driven home what he wants from us. It’s not just in games, it’s every day in training.

"I think that’s the main thing, why we’re getting our rewards on the pitch, because now in training we’ve got two good XIs playing against each other and playing at a really high standard. Everybody knows if you don’t perform in training you’re not going to get opportunities on the pitch."

Goldson and the Rangers defence have struggled to contain Celtic's Kyogo Furuhashi in recent times, with the forward having scored in five of the last seven Old Firm games.

But Goldson says the Ibrox side is focused on containing all Celtic players, not just the prolific Japan international.

"He’s obviously an important player for them, he scores goals, but we have to stop the team as a whole," Goldson said. "The ball has to get to Kyogo in the first place for him to be able to score goals.

"They’re obviously a good team but at the same time we have full belief in ourselves, we need to go into this game and put our own authority on it."
