I experienced lots of things that shaped my perspective and contributed to my personal growth. Among the aspects I cherished were the opportunities for intellectual exploration and academic engagement. Delving into subjects that intrigued me, I reveled in the diversity of knowledge offered by my courses, particularly those related to agriculture and sustainable food production. I also relished the sense of independence and autonomy that came with college life, allowing me to explore new interests and forge meaningful connections with fellow students. On the contrary, I found certain challenges to navigate, notably the adjustment to a rigorous academic workload and the occasional feelings of homesickness, particularly missing the familiarity of my family's farm in Togo. Despite these obstacles, I embraced them as opportunities for personal development and resilience, ultimately finding solace in the supportive community and enriching experiences that defined my first year of college.
I am in my second semester of freshman year and I haven't loved it here. The overall student body is indifferent about the school and nobody can say that they truly like it here. The goal of many is to transfer out as quickly as possible. When I first got here I felt alone and helpless as it is not the easiest place to make friends due to the sports culture and lacking social events. The first thing I was told at orientation was that if I couldn't find enough clubs to join then I didn't belong at Conn. When it came time to sign up for clubs, I found the selection to be greatly lacking, many of the clubs that I am in rarely meet. The party scene is not great as there are only a few places to go and campus security is very strict. Not a great school for stem but nice art department. All my professors have been great. Great therapists available. The advising here is not amazing either. Difficult to get off campus. Housing sucks, my friends dorm was declared unlivable due to a sewer flood.
Overall, I've had a wonderful experience so far. Every person on campus is so kind and cares so much about the college, other people, and the world. The food could be better. The housing is difficult, especially since they are over admitting students that they do not have housing for. Academics are rigorous, but not too challenging. The sports bring together the campus, since there are not many good campus wide events.
