May 15, Evening Lecture Series, Hanson Building
7:00 p.m. Sacred Heart University Biology Professor Jo-Marie Kasinak will present Project Limulus: a community-based research study examining the ecology of the Long Island Sound horseshoe crab (Limulus polyphemus) population. “Horseshoe crabs are a foundational species for their ecosystem. They are invaluable to human health, because their blood is used to make Limulus amebocyte lysate, which tests vaccines and other medical devices to ensure they are not contaminated with bacteria. Anyone who has received a flu shot or a COVID-19 vaccine can thank horseshoe crabs,” says Kasinak.

May 24-May 26, Chris Rowlands Live
10:00AM, 1:00PM, 3:00PM Award-winning singer, songwriter, and performer Chris Rowlands will return to Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo. Famous for getting everyone involved, Rowlands brings animals to life through song, dance, puppets, and colorful props, to teach children about animals and their habitats. Children are invited to wear fun hats and sing along with Rowlands on stage as he shares his self- penned songs. All Rowlands’ performances will be free with paid admission to the Zoo. Saturday's event is sponsored by the Fairfield County Farm Bureau. |

May 29, World Otter Day
World Otter Day brings all otter species to our attention. It focuses on raising awareness about how important otters are and also highlights the threats they face. Threats faced by otters include the huge trade in these animals for pets and fur. |

June 1, Wild Wine, Beer & Food Safari, 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Gather at the Zoo on Saturday, June 1st, and sample tastings from dozens of our favorite restaurants, caterers, wine & beer. Listen to live music, taste a Malbec with our monkeys, or sip a pilsner with our prairie dogs. The Wild Wine, Beer, and Food Safari is one of the Zoo’s largest fundraisers, with the goal of raising funds towards the care of our endangered species, expansion of our exhibits, and educational programming. Enjoy live music, games, an exciting silent auction, & of course, our animals! This event is 21+ and rain or shine. |

June 15, Skyhunters in Flight
Skyhunters in Flight is back! Beginning Saturday, June 15 and running until Monday, September 2, the Zoo will host the Skyhunters in Flight show every weekend. Be amazed as you watch birds of prey fly above you as Master Falconer Brian Bradley demonstrates their special powers. Get a closer look at owls, hawks, and falcons from around the world, and learn how these beautiful birds play an important role in our environment at the top of the food chain. Discover their amazing adaptations for survival in the wild and hear about the ancient sport of falconry and its training techniques. See these trained winged-athletes in action through an exciting, informative program for all ages. |

Come meet amazing Animal Ambassadors and their expert caregivers, to learn how animals explore their diverse environments in this year’s show Movin’ and Groovin’. Shows will be held Thursdays and Fridays at 11:00 AM and 1:00 pm in our adventure amphitheater! Audiences of all ages are invited to visit the zoo this summer to attend one of our amazing summer shows! These shows are designed to spark a connection with wildlife and encourage caring for conservation. |

July 20, Teddy Bear Festival, 10AM-2PM
This “beary” fun day will feature children’s activities and storytelling focusing on Bear Awareness and the facts about real bears. Plus, bring your teddy bear to the “Teddy Bear Clinic” at the Peacock Pavilion and get a free health checkup for your favorite stuffed animal. The Teddy Bear Clinic is sponsored by Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital. In addition to the Teddy Bear Check Up Clinic staffed by pediatric providers, the special day for children will include a coloring table, cornhole games and hula hoops, and giveaways while supplies last. |

August 2, International Golden Lion Tamarin Day
Visit the Zoo to see our resident Golden Lion Tamarins in the Rainforest Building! Golden lion tamarins are found in the forests of Brazil and are classified as endangered, mostly because of habitat loss. Zoos have played an important role in bringing golden lion tamarins back from the brink of extinction. |

The American red wolf is the rarest wild animal in the US and the most endangered wolf in our nation and the world. Red wolves have the incredible power to shape the landscape in a way that benefits plants, animals and people. Their presence has a domino effect on their surroundings, leading to a balanced ecosystem. On Sept 8, Zoo Educators will be on site at our Red Wolf Exhibit, to share artifacts and to discuss this highly endangered species from 1:00pm – 3:00pm. |

September 21, International Red Panda Day
Held on the third Saturday in September, the Zoo is happy to celebrate International Red Panda Day! The Red Panda is classified as Endangered by the IUCN due to human caused threats like deforestation, habitat fragmentation, and the illegal pet trade. Visit the zoo and meet Zoo Educators at our Red Panda exhibit, to see artifacts and to learn about this adorable animal from 1:00pm – 3:00pm. Join us on Saturday, October 19 at The Inn at Longshore in Westport for a wildly fun evening out that supports conservation efforts and education. The Gala is one of the Zoo’s largest fundraisers, with the goal of raising funds towards the care of our endangered species, expansion of our exhibits, and educational programming. The American Bison became the National Mammal in 2016 under President Obama, and National Bison Day celebrates this majestic animal the first Saturday of November. Take the time this week to visit the zoo, to learn about the American Bison, and to educate yourself about the role of the American Bison in indigenous communities. |
