My son was in the 3 Marines and in Iraq when I ordered this DVD. I spent 14 months in Vietnam but I wanted to see what my son was up against. This is a very different war. I watched the entire DVD with a lump in my throat as I saw the bravery of these young men and the price they paid to take Fallujah. The embedded reporter did an excellent job and this DVD is about as real as it is going to get with out being there. I cannot say that this will change anyone's mind about the war but I can promise that it will increase your understanding of the war and the men fighting it. I am so proud of my son. He did two tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan, but I could not watch this DVD again until he was out of the Marines. I wish every American could see this one.

A real hoot of a film - and its got Vinnie Jones!

Its not often you can put Vinnie Jones and saving the world (this one..) from a Nazi super bomb in the same sentence. It is December 1944 – the year, not the time digitally. Its winter as snow is on the ground, which is different to summer as there is no snow normally in summer. Back to what passes as the plot then: This ‘super bomb’ is the bit of kit with at least eight swastikas painted on it, one per fin either side, hence four fins, eight swastikas as far as we could make out in the brief few moments we saw it. This could prove very handy to find if it got lost, more so in fog. Possibly the same artist who also painted the same, about eighteen inches round, in bold black and white swastikas on all the lorry doors, whose base colour is a drab grey but a mere nit-picking point. In reality (?) these would certainly point out the vehicles as potential targets in one swoop about a half mile off or more. I think there could a sort of plot but it’s nothing to worry about. When anybody is shot - and this is quite often as like buses, if you miss one another will be along soon - it seems as if the victims have their own electrically powered pump about them that when ‘hit’, a constant stream of blood gushes out that makes the average municipal fountain look quite tame. The ‘baddie’ is straight out of a James Bond film (but possibly cheaper) complete with built-in snarl as he struts around, bless him, with some sort of leg brace made from possibly some perforated alloy plus ditto matching walking stick or at least the handle is of the same sort of stuff. We meet him initially after a ‘test’ of the super bomb - see above - is deemed not to have been powerful - or super - enough as some folk are still walking about, buildings still standing hence he is slightly peeved, so he has a moan to the professor type person (In leather overcoat and trilby type hat, complete with standard issue daughter by his side) who is responsible for building it and so a re-run is ordered otherwise the lad with the small moustache and the funny haircut running the show will be upset back in Berlin. The OSS ‘safe house’ they go to is the size of a concert hall - or mansion if things are on hard times - but otherwise quiet discreet. Towards the end the CGI ‘flying fortress type bombers’ at one point zap about the screen like fighter planes at speeds that are a sheer delight to see. One amazing thing - amid quite a lot of them its true - is our lad Vinnie guiding attack planes in via a basic ‘walkie-talkie’ Motorola handset from the cab of a captured Nazi lorry (with big swastikas on the doors, natch) although I am going to watch it again but feel sure it had no ariel on it. If you have seen the likes of ‘Saving Private Ryan’, ‘A Bridge Too Far’, ‘Battle of the Bulge’, ‘Carry On Camping’ or ‘Blazing Saddles’ this is nothing like any of them but on the plus side its funny, silly, bags of blood sloshing about and not to be taken seriously as its comic-book stuff through and through. My only regret is I never had the contract to supply all the blank ammunition used as it must have made somebody very rich considering all the rounds fired. Overall it’s a fun film that should brighten anybody’s evening up plus it’s got that well known thespian Vinnie Jones in it - can’t wait to see his version of Hamlet. Bottom line is it’s based on a computer game of the same name apparently in case you didn’t guess within the first few minutes. Come the next wet Sunday afternoon, out with the popcorn, slap this disc and see it all over again as there may be a plot in there somewhere and I might just find it.. I am giving it 5 stars as I can't give it 6..
