New Cardinals QB Colt McCoy's contract is for league minimum

The Arizona Cardinals have added a number of players in free agency to contracts for the league minimum. Quarterback Colt McCoy, slated to be Kyler Murray’s backup, is yet another.

None of his salary is guaranteed.

According to Over the Cap, his contract is structured to get some cap relief with a veteran exemption.

He will make the league minimum in salary, which is $1.075 million for someone with as many credited years as he has in the league. He receives a signing bonus of $137,500. The total value of his contract is a little more than $1.2 million.

However, because of the veteran exemption, his cap hit will be $987,500, a savings of $225,000 against the cap.

The lack of guaranteed money suggests that Chris Streveler and Cole McDonald will compete and potentially be able to beat out McCoy, but everything about what the Cardinals have done this offseason suggests they went experience at every position they can.
