Considering I've been a fan of Sixpence None the Richer long before they were "mainstream", it's easy to see how some people who aren't familiar with their work and how far it's come to understand how great this band is.
This collection is great for all of those of the "Kiss Me" generation, who don't know what this band is capable of. If that's the only song you liked on their newest self-titled release, then you won't care for this collection very much.
Each song is as poignant as it can get. A great choice for people who aren't familiar with a lot of the band's earlier music.

Quite a few fans have posted negative reviews of this compilation, and they're right. Although a number of Sixpence's stellar tracks made it onto the disc, it's mostly a tired collection of stuff-found-on-old-comps.
R.E.X. records, Sixpence's former label, kept the band in hellish limbo for three years after a nasty bankruptcy. Unable to escape their contract, but lacking the funds to produce or market a new CD, Sixpence languished for years between This Beautiful Mess and their self-titled release. Veteran artist Steve Taylor eventually bought their contract from REX's husk, fronted the money to record their self-titled release, and helped produce the CD.
Of course, REX still owns the rights to Sixpence's older songs -- and when they jumped into the national spotlight with Kiss Me, REX decided to cash in. A quick compilation of older (Owned-by-REX) songs was thrown together and marketed as 'Collage,' hoping to snag new fans looking for older material. They even misspelled the title of the band's earlier single, Angeltread, on the track listing. Sigh.
If you like Sixpence, do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of This Beautiful Mess. Collage is nothing more than a sad attempt to cash in.

Betsy from kentucky, get over it. It's called a "cover song." And its not necessarily a love song. Judge not, lest ye be judged.

....within my top 3 all time. I love Sixpence None the Richer. Their music is wonderful, and this CD lives up to their great music. Leigh has such a beautiful voice, it's almost like listening to an angel singing, I would give this a 7 if I could. Buy it, if you like GREAT music.

Thank you Sixpence. Great music! Especially for my two daughters. It's good to know that good musicians with good hearts are on the air waves. Our culture needs more and more of you, and I will continue to pray for that. Well done!

It is much more advisable for new Sixpence listners to buy Sixpence's first two albums, THIS BEAUTIFUL MESS and THE FATHERLESS AND THE WIDOW than this hastily thrown together collection. Missing from this "portrait" are Sixpence classics like "Trust" and "Meaningless," a song the band still plays live at epic length. The artwork is second-rate and goes against the artistic nature of a band. Avoid COLLAGE unless you just can't afford both of Sixpence's early CD's. One positive thing I will mention about COLLAGE is that whoever selected the tracks for the album (and it was not the band) had the forsight to pick the best songs from the TICKETS FOR A PRAYER WHEEL EP It is still unforgivable that the same care was not taken in selecting LP tracks. It sounds as if the compilers of the album tried to find as many "Kiss Me" clones as they could in Sixpence's back catalog.

a sixpence mish-mash
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 6, 2012
This 'collage' contains five songs that are otherwise unavailable, plus a mix of songs from their first two albums. Out of these five songs, only two are proper Sixpence compositions, both of which are reasonable enough(one is very good), but is this worth buying just for that? ( Of the others, one is a strange jokey effort, another a grim cover version, and the other an awful dance mix of Love, Salvation,& the Fear of Death.) Any serious appreciator of this band's work will want to have the proper albums, and no 'best of', 'collage',Top Ten, or any other mix does justice. Every Sixpence album is a work of excellence in its own right, and should be listened to as such as a complete work. Every Sixpence album is different from every other, and all attempts to market them as mixes fails, the result being a mish-mash of songs that just don't go together. Individually, there are many great compositions on this album, but the star rating given here reflects its failure to work as an album in its own right. Avoid all mish-mash mixes of this band's work, and buy the proper albums. Not one of them will disappoint. To highlight the amount of thought gone into the marketing of this composition, there is even a spelling mistake on the first song on my copy. Angelthread? No effort whatsoever has gone into the production of the booklet either.

Very Good

If you own the latest "The Best of Sixpence None the Richer" do not fear. There is very little song overlap from this early version of their "Greatest Hits". Plus this particular CD is a really steal of a deal. Go for it.
