Jason McAteer says Liverpool’s new boy Cody Gakpo looks ‘lost’ following his January transfer from PSV.
The 23-year-old is still yet to score or assist for Jurgen Klopp’s side, as he struggled further during Liverpool’s 2-1 FA Cup defeat to Brighton on Sunday.
When Gakpo arrived, he knew that he was going to be thrown straight into the deep end because of injuries to Luis Diaz, Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota.
In years gone by, the likes of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz, have all made positive starts to their careers on Merseyside.
But Gakpo, who had a very good Qatar World Cup with the Netherlands, including scoring in every group game, just hasn’t got that spark to his game.
That was touched upon by former Reds star McAteer, as he told beIN SPORTS (29/01/23 at 3:40 pm).

“Gakpo is still trying to find his feet,” said McAteer. “He looks a little bit lost, for me.”
GAKPO ISN’T BEING HELPED
Yes, Gakpo hasn’t started as well as he would have liked, his manager or the fans.
But it’s not like he’s walked into a thriving team. In actual fact, this is the worst Liverpool have played under Klopp.
The whole team is performing in an abject fashion from back to front, even Mo Salah has lost his goalscoring touch and Sadio Mane’s absence is being felt by the day.
Therefore, it’s pretty hard for Gakpo to walk into that environment, stick his chest out and perform wonders.
