Notes
The vinyl was either 'loose' or contained in a white poly-lined wallet, at the outlet's discretion. This was contained in a specially-produced clear plastic wallet with a 'Clear Spot' logo embossed on the flap. Within this was a 2-sided white card insert with black & white print - photo on front, credits on reverse. No 'Clear Spot' logo appeared on this insert. The release package in this form, with minor variations (such as insert being 2 pieces, glued back-to-back as one) and with respective catalog IDs, was issued in Australia, Canada, France (one-sided insert), Germany & the USA.
By the close of 1972 the 'limited quantity' of embossed wallets had expired. The 2nd issue did not have embossing and the 'Clear Spot' logo was printed on a white reissue cover (Grey, Black or Pale Blue; Depending upon country or reissue dates throughout vinyl's history). The 2nd issue labels in the UK ('mustard' rather than light brown) also had the addition of the small Warner logo & a new text layout (containing literals). "8-track" editions, with re-ordered titles, appeared in the UK, USA & Canada in 1972. Cassettes also exist, together with a 1972 issue 7" reel recording. Since 2000 'specialist' vinyl has been produced of this release. It has also been 'paired' as a 'double release' with other Beefheart recordings over the years, most notably with "The Spotlight Kid".
"Her Eyes Are A Blue Million Miles" is in the soundtrack of the 1998 film 'The Big Lebowski'.
The title track "Clear Spot" features in the 2007 film "Things We Lost In The Fire"
Engineer Donn Landee was nicknamed "Mit" during recording because, in Vliet's words,"...he caught everything we threw at him"*.
*[ZigZag interview April '73].
The insert photo was taken in the control center of the Planetarium of Griffith Park Observatory, Los Angeles, California. The last line of "Golden Birdies", in typical Vliet spontaneity, references the Webcor.

On my 2nd copy and it is a tick and skip nightmare. Bring back CDs!
Piece o' junk. Only safe way to buy it is to play it in a store. - Edited one month ago

Wow! This pressing sounds great. I haven't even played the bonus tracks yet. referencing Clear Spot (2×LP, Album, Record Store Day, Limited Edition, Reissue, Clear, 50th Anniversary) RCV1 2115
One of the best sounding records in my collection. Crystal clear, excellent bass, mids, and highs, and the drums cut right through and sound like they're in my living room. Just a fantastic listen.referencing Clear Spot (2×LP, Album, Record Store Day, Limited Edition, Reissue, Clear, 50th Anniversary) RCV1 2115
Are the vocal tracks on disc 2 the same ones that were on the Sun Zoom Spark CD boxset from a few years back?referencing Clear Spot (2×LP, Album, Record Store Day, Limited Edition, Reissue, Clear, 50th Anniversary) RCV1 2115
Skips atrociously - tracks 7&8 on Side II & tracks 1&2 on Side III. Just stopped the disc it's so infuriating. This'll teach me to take a whole 12 months to open a record.- This is a beautifuly recorded album and this German repress sounds amazing. Here we have a referance sounding record. The sound is very fresh, airy, well balanced, warm, soft, clean and crisp. This is relly a beauty.

Seriously good. Have an original. This is just as good. If not better , bass especially and no surface noise. God bless our reissue golden age. This puppy rox
Better bass usually is the tip off its digital in some way, but this is nice. Original had some nice atmosphere missing from this copy, but this one is so much more clear. Toss up folks. You got nothing to be wanting in this 50th referencing Clear Spot (2×LP, Album, Record Store Day, Limited Edition, Reissue, Clear, 50th Anniversary) RCV1 2115
Just picked this up yesterday and both disc's are virtually free of any surface noise whatsoever. Beautiful and dynamic pressing! Such a great album and the presentation of the gatefold is nice too!- Edited one year agoIncredible sound quality on this copy https://www.discogs.com/release/2472718-Captain-Beefheart-And-The-Magic-Band-Clear-Spot vinyl that is NM/M-. Favorite Beefheart album. It's both avant garde and accessible.

No problems here. Sounds stupendous…. From the little drum-rolls in Low Yo Yo to the stark guitar work throughout, to the bouncy keys on the jazzier/soulful pieces. Really great pressing.
