Del Piero, Chiellini and Marchisio react to Juventus’ Champions League collapse - Football Italia

Former Juventus captains Alessandro Del Piero, Giorgio Chiellini and Claudio Marchisio, react to the Old Lady’s 2-1 loss against Benfica in the Champions League.

The Bianconeri have now lost the first two group stage games for the first time in history and are six points behind PSG and Benfica in Group H.

They’ve started the season by winning only two of the first eight matches across all competitions, but their boss Max Allegri insisted last night that he is not considering resigning.

Juventus legends Del Piero, Marchisio and Chiellini reacted to last night’s 2-1 loss in Turin.

Del Piero and Marchisio commented on the game for Sky Sport and Prime Video Italia, respectively, while the LAFC defender posted a picture on his social media accounts writing the club’s motto: ‘Fino alla Fine’ (until the end).

“It’s not an easy moment for Juventus,” admitted Del Piero.

“They must have an internal confrontation to understand the long and short-term issues. We should not forget about injuries, we’d see a different Juve without all those players out. Juventus have real problems in creating chances and keeping up with intensity, especially in Europe.

Benfica came out slowly, keeping their identity and unity. They always know what to do and Juventus must do much more even with all these problems.”

Marchisio believes Juventus’ problems are mostly physical and tactical.

“Bonucci spoke about physical and mental tiredness,” the ex-midfielder said.

“Players looked confused, also without the ball. There are many single plays and this brings to tiredness. Danilo and McKennie were exhausted tonight. We are just at the beginning of the season, you don’t see the others this tired.”

Del Piero, Marchisio and Chiellini won the first Scudetto in the post-Calciopoli era in 2012 under Antonio Conte.

The former striker left the club in the summer, at the end of his contract. Marchisio terminated his agreement with Juventus in 2018, while Chiellini left at the end of 2021-22, joining LAFC.

  1. So you want the man who spent £265 million in the summer and still can’t win games. I agree we have issues but if everyone is fit it’s a completely different side. Tuchel wouldn’t have that kind of money to spend in Italy.

  2. You Del Piero slaughtered Pirlo. Pirlo, was much better despite he had only half a season. Eat your word now and admit they should’ve stayed with Pirlo rather than bring this useless coach.

  3. Thomas Tuchel needs to be given a chance we can’t continue like this otherwise we’re going to the Europa League

  4. It does not matter who coaches this zombified club. The main issue is leadership at the top. They prefer the 19th Century coma calcio. The fabric of this outdated withered old granny is to play for 1-0, 0-0, 1-1 at the same time showcasing the fine arts of zombie back, back, down, down. Tuchel will hate being in that losers environment and Zidane is too clever to ruin his reputation. Sell the club and rebrand it to Piemonte Calcio as it always should have been.
