プリシラ・マリア・ヴェロニカ・ホワイト（Priscilla Maria Veronica White OBE、1943年5月27日 - 2015年8月1日）は、シラ・ブラック（Cilla Black）の名で知られるイギリスの歌手、司会者、女優、作家である。
1963年に歌手としてデビューし、シングル11作品が全英シングルチャート、アルバム4作品が全英アルバムチャートでそれぞれトップ10入りしている[4]。歌手活動のほかに、BBCのバラエティ番組『Cilla』（1968年 - 1976年）や、『Blind Date』（1984年 - 2001年）や『The Moment of Truth』（1998年 - 2001年）などの番組で司会を務め、コメディ女優としての活動も行なった。
2015年8月1日に死去。
来歴[編集]
ブラックは、1943年5月27日にリヴァプールのヴォクソールで、プリシラ・ブライトン（1911年 - 1996年）とジョン・パトリック・ホワイト（1904年 - 1971年）の娘、プリシラ・マリア・ヴェロニカ・ホワイトとして生まれる[5]。ローマ・カトリックの家庭で育ち、スコットランド・ロードにあるセント・アンソニー・スクールに通い、事務仕事について学ぶ[6][7]。
エンターテイナーになることを決意したブラックは、リヴァプールにあるキャヴァーン・クラブでクローク係のアルバイトを始める。プロモーターのサム・リーチの勧めにより歌手としての活動を始め、デューク・ストリートにあるゾディアック・クラブで自身初のライブを行ない、ザ・ビッグ・スリーをバックに「Swinging Cilla」名義で登場。1961年の夏[3]には、ロリー・ストーム&ザ・ハリケーンズやキングサイズ・テイラー&ザ・ドミノズのゲスト・ボーカリストとしても活動を行ない、その一方で「ゾディアック」というコーヒーラウンジでウェイトレスと働き、後の夫であるボビー・ウィリスと出会う[8]。地元の音楽新聞『Mersey Beat』で、ビル・ハリーはお気に入りのアーティストとして挙げる[3]が、この際に誤って「シラ・ブラック」と呼んでいる[8]。以降、この名前で活動を行なっている[8]。
ブラックは、長年の友人であったテリー・マッキャンと初の契約を結ぶが、これはブラックが未成年の時に結ばれたものであったことから、守られることはなく、その後ブラックの父親がブライアン・エプスタインと契約を結んだ[9]。その後、エプスタインのつてにより、ジョージ・マーティンに引き合わされ、パーロフォンと契約[10]。
1963年9月にレノン＝マッカートニーが作曲を手がけた「Love of the Loved」でデビュー[10]。シングルは全英シングルチャートで最高位35位を獲得[11]。翌年に2枚目のシングル『Anyone Who Had a Heart』が発売され、全英シングルチャートで3週連続で1位を獲得[12]、イギリスで80万枚の売上を記録した[3]。続くシングル『You're My World』も全英1位を獲得。本作はアメリカでも26位[13]まで上昇した。
1967年にエプスタインが死去。その後任としてボビー・ウィリスがマネージャーとなった[14]。
1968年1月よりBBCのテレビ番組『Cilla』の司会を務め、番組は1976年4月まで放送された。同年3月にシングル『ステップ・インサイド・ラヴ』を発売。表題曲はポール・マッカートニーがBBCのシラの番組のために作曲した楽曲となっている[15]。シングルは全英シングルチャートで最高位8位を獲得[16]。
1969年1月、ウィリスと結婚し、1999年10月23日にウィリスが癌で死去するまでの30年にわたって結婚生活を送った[14]。
1975年、ITVで放送されたテレビシリーズ『Cilla's Comedy Six』にメイン・エンターテイナーとして出演。同年5月に全英脚本家組合はブラックをイギリスのトップ女性コメディ・スターに選出[17]。
1993年、ダスティ・スプリングフィールドやクリフ・リチャード、バリー・マニロウらとのデュエット曲を含む新曲を収録したアルバム『Through the Years』を発売。その10年後にあたる2003年に『Beginnings... Greatest Hits and New Songs』を発売した[18]。
2006年にタレントショー『Soapstar Superstar』の第1シリーズで審査員を務め[20]、『Eating with...』シリーズの1エピソードに出演[21]。
2014年、芸能生活50周年を記念し、英国アカデミー賞テレビ部門の特別賞と、ロイヤル・テレビジョン協会レジェンド賞を受賞[22][23][24]。
2015年8月1日、スペインのエステポナにある別荘で死去。享年72[25]。アンダルシア州高等裁判所の報道官は、ブラックの死因として事故の可能性を示唆[25]。病理学者の報告書によると、ブラックは後ろ向きに転倒し、テラスの壁に頭をぶつけた後にくも膜下出血を起こしたことが確認され、死から4時間後に発見されたとのこと[26]。
2017年にキャヴァーン・クラブ創業60周年を記念し、ブラックの息子らが依頼したブラックの銅像がキャヴァーン・クラブのかつての入口付近に設置された[27][28]。
