Fairport 11, Brighton 7

The defending Class A state champs started their season opener strong and never looked back, taking down the host Bruins.

Fairport scored the first three goals of the game and led 6-1 at the end of the first quarter.

Brighton fought back in the second and third quarters, outscoring Fairport 4-2 to trail just 8-6 heading into the fourth.

However, Fairport had an answer in the fourth. Junior Lily Kondas scored to push the lead back to three. Then after Brighton scored to make it a two-goal game once again, Katie Mallaber netted a goal to push the lead to 10-7.

Kondas finished with five goals. Mallaber had three goals, Ella Peers had a goal and an assist, and Meghan Arserio had a goal.

Brighton was led by Alexandra Madison who had two goals and two assists. Ella Brunette had two goals, while Riley Lawrence, Ireland Mistretta, and Anthea Hayslip each had a goal.

Fairport (1-0) will travel East to take on Cicero-North Syracuse on Monday, April 1st. Brighton (0-2) try for their first win of the season on Friday, April 12th when they host Victor.

Penn Yan 7, Irondequoit 6

Bailey Cooper scored Penn Yan’s first five goals of the game, powering the Mustangs to victory.

Cooper finished with five goals, all coming in the first three quarters. That gave Penn Yan a 5-2 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Irondequoit cut the lead to two goals twice, trailing 5-3 and 6-4, but each Eagle goal was followed by a goal from Penn Yan’s Corinne Barden.

Penn Yan led 7-4 and Irondequoit scored two goals in the final two minutes, but the Eagles were unable to gain possession with a chance to tie the game.

Cooper added an assist for six points on the evening. Barden finished with two goals, Taylor Mullins had two assists, and Makenna Mullins added an assist for the Mustangs.

Ellie Bottiglier, Grace Bottiglier, and Lucy Whipple each had two goals for Irondequoit. Ellie Bottiglier and Ella Brennan had an assist each.

Penn Yan (1-0), the defending Class D Section V champs, will travel to Corning on Friday, March 29th.

Irondequoit (0-1) will travel to Churchville-Chili on Wednesday, April 10th.
