Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting’s contract with FC Bayern is due to expire in the summer. Recently, there have been increasing reports that the striker will leave the club. As has now become known, the Cameroonian could be about to make a U-turn.

The 34-year-old extended his contract by one year in the summer of 2023. There was no option for an extension beyond that until 2025.

Several media outlets have recently unanimously reported that Bayern are not willing to extend the striker’s contract and let him leave.

In the 2022/23 season, the Cameroonian played an important role in the centre of Munich’s attack and was set to be Lewandowski’s successor. Following the signing of Harry Kane, EMCM will have to settle for a backup role (28 games, 3 goals, 1 assist).

New Bayern coach could allow Choupo to stay

According to Sky, the attacker’s advisors have not yet been informed that he will have to leave the club in the summer. The „mood-maker“ is very popular in the dressing room. Nevertheless, it is more likely that he will leave. However, should the new Bayern head coach plan to work with Choupo-Moting, Christoph Freund and Max Eberl would certainly be prepared to discuss a new contract with him.

It remains to be seen whether Choupo-Moting himself would like to stay at FCB for another year. The Cameroon international was linked with a move to Manchester United in the winter. There are also rumoured to be other interested parties from Saudi Arabia and the USA.

One thing is clear: Munich would certainly not be prepared to continue paying the current salary in the event of an extension. According to rumours, Choupo-Moting currently earns just under ten million euros per year.
