She knows she has talent, but being a driven career woman in the '70s comes with its own challenges, especially when competition for a promotion and a tumultuous home life lead to a dissolution of self. With ratings in the cellar, the station manager issues a mandate to deliver juicier and more exploitative stories, a story firmly at odds with her serious brand of issue-based journalism. Jeffrey P There was absolutely no story and not much to the titular character in the first half. The story needed to be told for obvious reasons, and that became clear in the second half where the performance of the main character's downward spiral becomes more captivating. If someone went into this blind, I can see how they might not think much of it. She was basically an ordinary person doing an ordinary job in an ordinary life where nothing out of the ordinary happened, and this film was just about the same... until the ending. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/25/24 Full Review Joshua m Rebecca Hall is fantastic. I had no idea that this was biographical. It's an amazing movie where the story of Christine Chubbock feels like a personal loss. I also feel a little guilty because the character seemed slightly comical in her neuroticism and made me laugh a bit. But maybe that is okay. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/30/23 Full Review Nathalie D Rebecca Hall is stunning in her role. It's painful to see her caracter evolve throughout the movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/25/23 Full Review Ashley B The entire movie was enjoyable for me. During this time, I was able to gain a greater understanding of the honest Christine and form my judgments. But then it throws you a curveball! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/31/23 Full Review Stephen D Pros: Great acting Interesting story Cons: Limited information on the true story The ending should have been explored more for how the co-workers and local community reacted to this. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/02/23 Full Review Kimberly N When I watched this movie I did not know how Christine Chubbuck was, but when I watched this movie it was sad and I cried at the end and I research her and it's very sad but the movie was great best acting I highly recommend watching this movie RIP Christine C. Kristen Lopez Culturess Campos' film is a clinging, yearning look at one woman's mad desire for acceptance. Nov 20, 2017 Full Review Adam Nayman Cinema Scope A perfect exemplar of a bad good movie, Antonio Campos' Christine traps (an excellent) Rebecca Hall in a series of impeccably composed frames as the famously ill-fated Sarasota local news anchor Christine Chubbuck. Sep 28, 2017 Full Review Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online It's a haunting reflection on the hopefulness of feminism for the 1970s working woman, which is also uncomfortably effective. And while Christine's death is a part of the conclusion of the narrative, it doesn't define it. Rated: B+ Mar 22, 2017 Full Review Vadim Rizov Filmmaker Magazine It was far more compelling than I expected, and a definite evolution in Campos’ flexibility as a filmmaker; whatever its flaws, I never knew what would happen next, and that’s rare. Jan 18, 2023 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies Subtly the film grows more unnerving with each step forward. Campos methodically puts together the pieces of this story, and it’s tough to endure knowing the tragic finale that lies ahead. Rated: 4/5 Aug 19, 2022 Full Review Victoria Luxford City AM A compassionate portrait thats far more nuanced than the headlines surrounding the story would suggest.
