TV tonight: Christine McGuinness on her life as an autistic woman

This article is more than 1 year old

She looks at her own autism and the experience of other girls and women. Plus, the plot thickens in The Bay. Here’s what to watch this evening

Christine McGuinness: Unmasking My Autism

9pm, BBC One

After last year’s documentary on her children growing up autistic, McGuinness talks about her own late diagnosis and puts the spotlight on the lack of research into autistic women (who are 13 times more likely to kill themselves than those who aren’t autistic). She speaks with girls about their experiences and recalls how her eating disorder was partly due to sensory and texture overload in foods. Hollie Richardson

Kirstie and Phil’s Love It Or List It: Brilliant Builds

8pm, Channel 4

If you shout “Love it!” rather than “List it!” at the TV every week, Phil and Kirstie’s show on what happens when renovations go off the rails might change your mind. Roy and Sue have 20 years’ worth of unfinished business on their bungalow, while Abi can’t bear to tackle a kitchen diner that her late partner started. Hannah Verdier

Saving Lives in Leeds

9pm, BBC Two

A high-risk 12-hour operation to remove a “football-sized” mass is the only thing on Sheila Fraser’s agenda today. Elsewhere, seven-year-old Brooklyn needs metal pins removed from his legs after being in a car crash that was fatal for his mother, brother and sister. HR

The Bay

9pm, ITV1

These are stressful times for DS Townsend (Marsha Thomason), adjusting to her own blended family amid whispers of downsizing at the Morecambe nick. But her focus remains on the Metcalfs, who lost mum Beth in an arson attack. Why did she not tell them about receiving online abuse? And why does prickly dad Dean have a second phone? Graeme Virtue

The Piano

9pm, Channel 4

The nerves are palpable as the four chosen pianists – Lucy, Sean, Danny and Jay – play in the hallowed Royal Festival Hall for the final episode. It’s an emotional performance for all of them but there’s one that astonishes the audience, while another has host Claudia Winkleman in tears. HR

Django

9pm, Sky Atlantic

The spaghetti western continues down its dark path, alternating between heavy dialogue scenes and bursts of gruesome combat or abject cruelty. In the first of this week’s two episodes, a plot to con the frosty, unsettling Elizabeth (Noomi Rapace) seems doomed to fail. Jack Seale

Money Shot: The Pornhub Story (Suzanne Hillinger, 2023), Netflix

The attempt to remove porn from the internet is, suggests one contributor to Suzanne Hillinger’s fascinating, nuanced documentary, “like ripping the spine out of something”. But recently, journalists and campaigners have put the highly lucrative video-sharing site Pornhub under extreme pressure. It’s a story that covers sexual exploitation, child abuse, racketeering charges, censorship and fundamental Christianity – as well as the porn professionals who are caught in the middle and see their livelihoods under threat.
