Broncos host free agent safety Chris Cooper on visit

Free agent safety Chris Cooper is visiting the Denver Broncos, according to a report from the Houston Chronicle‘s Aaron Wilson.

Cooper (5-10, 202 pounds) is a 26-year-old safety who entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Stony Brook with the Indianapolis Colts in 2018. He went on to spend time with the Cincinnati Bengals before joining the Atlanta Falcons last spring.

Cooper spent the entire 2019 season in Atlanta but did not appear in any games. He had a brief stint on the Falcons’ Reserve/COVID-19 list this summer and failed to make Atlanta’s 53-man roster.

During his senior year at Stony Brook, Cooper totaled 88 tackles (including 9.5 tackles for losses), one sack, one fumble recovery, one interception and three pass breakups.

Cooper might be a candidate for the Broncos’ practice squad. After adding linebacker Nigel Bradham, Denver still has one open spot remaining on the 16-man practice squad.

Cooper is yet to appear in a regular season game in the NFL. In the Hall of Fame Game against the Broncos last year, he recorded two tackles.
