To play devils advocate here, I dont play 40k either but I read the books, play the video games, etc. Not saying these asswipes are actual fans og the series but there are different kinds of 40k fans.

I dig the sentiment and for sure the loudest voices are grifter but... viewership has cratered. Dr. Who has lost people. Most of them aren't bitching online but it's clear this direction hasn't worked for them. Take out the politics and it's still a bad idea. Peter Capaldi is a straight white Scottish man but his run still saw a huge decline in viewership. Saying, "change the channel" would be a horrendous thing to say when your show is already hanging on by a thread. You can't afford to burn audience at that point.
The issue is the quality of the writing took a nosedive after Moffat left and it wasn't exactly the best with Moffat already
Ncuti's era is seeing Russel T Davis coming back as Showrunner which a lot of fans of modern Who agree it was best under him

Have you ever watched doctor who before. For years they’ve done stuff like show historic racism, sexism and anti war sentiments. Anyone claiming the show is leaning into culture war, just doesn’t watch it as it’s always been like that.

I always felt like Jodie Whittaker and Chris Chibnall were way too submissive towards the neckbeards and hateful fans (as in, they didn't publicly call out the toxicity or defend themselves from the scorn)
Ncuti Gatwa and RTD however are taking a different approach to that which is nice to see. It's about time someone put up a fight against TFM.
I think the issue was it was legitimately a lower quality. I loved Jodie as the doctor but she got way less focus than she should have because of way too many characters. And some of the episodes were cringy even by dr who standards.
It sucks because I love Dinosaurs on a Spaceship but he was never able to find that level of balance between camp and seriousness in his turn as show runner. But I did think they stuck the landing and enjoyed the last season.
Long winded way to say I wanted to defend it more but it just wasn’t great.
Jodie probably saw the kind of backlash Brie Larson got and decided to protect her peace.
RTD had to put up with Thatcher and her cronies in the 80s. He's not new to reactionary wankers out to make the lives of minorities hell.
Thankfully Jodie and Chibnall didn't look at the comments said online whereas Ncuti and RTD are a lot more aware of it.
Jodie aside, Chibnalls run was awful.
I'd say it was kind of eh mostly. Not the worst ever but obviously not the best either. There are actually a fair number of Classic Who episodes and Eleventh Doctor episodes that I thought were worse than anything in Chibnall's run. And regardless of whether it is bad or not, Chibnall and Whittaker absolutely did not deserve all the awful personal insults that were thrown at them. Whittaker did the best with what she had, and it's not like Chibnall purposely going out of his way to make bad episodes.
I started with new who, so I know next to nothing about classic. Tennet is my doctor. I didn't watch much of chibnalls run tbh, I kind of faded out during Capaldi doctor. After Clara left, Capaldi was a little too crotechy old man for me.
Fan of Moffitt though. New guy wasn't bad in sex Ed. It's really interesting having a black doctor. History wasn't too nice to black ppl. I'm hoping it's not a whole series on racism.

I’ve been watching Doctor who since I was… oh my god since I was 10. It’s been 8 years… anyways other than that existential crisis, he fits the role perfectly with his personality! Definitely one of the best choices for the new Doctor! Doubt he will beat my favorite Capaldi, but we will see.

I did think Jodie's run was pretty bad, though it had nothing to do with her performance, just some structural and story issues with her episodes, (too many companions, twee storylines). Unfortunately it got so bad I stopped watching Who for the first time since I was a little kid in the 80's. Not out of a silly protest, but because I lost interest.
I hope it picks up again for me with a new Doctor/old showrunner. I enjoyed the three specials, mostly because my favorite companion since Leela returned, but I'm feeling bullish about Ncuti.

of the most recent 4 episodes, 3 of them were some of the worst television i’ve ever seen. i didn’t see seasons 9-13 but decided to check out the specials and yeah they sucked.

the characterisation of literally everyone - the doctor tells donna things with no concern for her safety and acts more recklessly the entire time, donna is a tool, rose is a wildly offensive depiction of NBs, as is wheelchair lady for the differently able, donna’s mum is the only character i kinda liked (i like that the doctor’s words to her in journey’s end had an impact on her and made her really supportive of rose) -
the plot was a soft sludge for the first half that popped, spewing toxic goo all over the script: turning off the rocket fixes the ground, the rockets in the wheelchair, EVERYTHING to do with the metacrisis -
and the acting was not great. tenent and tate are the best but they’re no where near as good as they were 15 years ago, and the rest range from ok to bad.
and that’s just the first episode.
I stopped watching who after Clara. Capaldi wasn't my cup of tea. Surly old man Doctor was terrible.
