Amazing place & tour. It’s a shame more people don’t know about it. You can do it self-guided or join a docent led tour & ours was very knowledgeable. It’s not been commercialised like everything else in NYC so you can leave what you want by way of donation to keep these tours free & keep it maintained meaning suitable for all budgets.

There is a little China here. This district has everything cheaper, and if your time is flexible, you can explore Chinese cuisines.

Canal Street is a road in Manhattan which runs fairly horizontally across the Island. It has a reputation of being a place you can visit if you want to get unauthentic products. You can also get some good bargains.

I love that it stretches across some very multi-cultural areas and you can enjoy them all.

One thing that baffled me was the multiple subway stations which are all named Canal Street but on different lines. For a first time subway user I had to keep my wits about me.

The Mahayana temple is located at the entrance to Manhattan Bridge. The building is somewhat plain from the exterior. Worth a look inside.

I got up early for breakfast at a little restaurant across the street and walked over to watch locals practice tai chi in the park. I’m always interested in how folks in the city spend their time. Nice benches to sit and rest. Plenty of trees to provide shade if the day is hot.

What an incredible store. Really a one of kind store. So worth going in and choosing a set of chopsticks that call out to you. Very friendly, too

I almost made this a three star review, but chose to go with four stars after my interaction with the staff and hearing more about their mission.

I expected a bit of a larger, more open space where I could cuddle with cats (with their consent of course). But this space was quite a bit smaller, and there were around 10 people in the space, all of them vying for the attention of a few cats. It was crowded and busy for my personal taste.

That’s not their fault. And the employees told me weekdays are much less hectic (I’m just not usually in the city on weekdays).

All of the employees are super nice, and you can tell this place prioritizes feline well-being above all else. They explained to me that their cats come from a cat rescue in Bowling Green, KY, which funnily enough, I live near. They told me they have almost a complete turnover of cats every two weeks. They have very careful adoption procedures in place to ensure the best placement for the cats.

Please note weekends are reservation only, weekdays it’s recommended, but not required. And there are rules. Vaccination, no shoes, don’t pick the cats up, don’t wake the cats up, etc.

This wasn’t my style, but I respect their mission and the employees are great reps for the organization.

On the edge of Chinatown, you will pass by the statue on your way into Chinatown or pass by Chinatown.

The area for the statue is not big and not much to see.

Good landmark to help one to navigate in and around Chinatown.

This place is located in Chinatown which is easily worth a wander around, its really called Chatham square but also known as Kimlau square which is a local name of a WWII pilot. The main statue is Lin Zexu and worth a find it will only take a few minutes of your time.

This is a small combination of store selling religious items and worship space. I would not make a special trip, but we were just walking down the street and wandered in just to check it out. Actually, there wasn't all that much to check out, but it is different from what we are used to.

Place was easy to find, looked sketchy from the outside but it was a very good experience! The massages were great, and the prices are affordable. Only disadvantage is the language barrier at times.
