How customer reviews and ratings work
Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

This fabulous recording was expertly remastered by the righteous Mosaic Records with five additional tracks (not alternate takes)
Chicago/Austin High School Jazz in Hi-Fi
. Magical clarinetist Pee Wee Russel and Bud Freeman's slippery tenor are rendered magnificently.

This freewheeling and very spirited old-fashioned jazz from
Bud Freeman and his Summa Cum Laude Orchestra is a must for all trad fans.
Even if you've heard this songs before, you wan't mind their creative interpretations by three overlapping groups, all three featuring Bud (ts) and George Wettling (dm).
Other players are, as follows:
Songs 1-4: Jimmy Mc Partland (co), Pee Wee Russell (cl), Dick Cary (p), Al Casamenti (g), Milt Hinton (b).
5-6: Billy Butterfield (tp), Tyree Glenn (tb), Russell (cl), Cary (p), Casamenti (g), Al Hall (b).
7-10: Butterfield (tp), Jack Teagarden (tb and two glorious vocals on "Jack hits the road" and "There'll be some changes made"), Peanuts Hacko (cl), Gene Schroeder (p), Leonard Gaskin (b).
In adition to great ensemble work, there is also quite enough of solo space, with Freeman, Butterfield, Mc Partland and the trombonists (Glenn and Teagarden) playing the most significant role in the proceedings.
Get it if you can. And, if you like this, youll probably like this gem: Bobby Hackett and His Jazz Band

Exuberant and swinging jazz from Bud Freeman's Summe Cum Laude Orchestra in 1957.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 7, 2017
Tenor saxophonist Bud Freeman(1906-91) and his Summa Cum Laude Orchestra recorded these three sessions in New York on March 7, April 3 & July 8, 1957.
The collective personnel is Bud Freeman(tenor sax); Jimmy McPartland, Billy Butterfield(trumpet); Pee Wee Russell, Peanuts Hucko(clarinet); Tyree Glenn(trombone); Jack Teagarden(trombone, vocal); Dick Cary, Gene Schroeder(piano); Al Casamenti(guitar); Milt Hinton, Al Hall, Leonard Gaskin(bass); George Wettling(drums).
The eleven tracks revisit the repertoire of the Red McKenzie-Eddie Condon Chicagoans of 1927 and Bud Freeman's 1939-40 Summa Cum Laude Orchestra.
'Chicago/Austin High School Jazz in Hi-Fi' contains plenty of exuberant and swinging music with inspired solos and deserve a place in any serious jazz collection.
Btw ~ This RCA Edition(1993) is currently hard to find but it's available on a bargain-priced 2-CD set 'Four Classic Albums Plus'(AVID AMSC 1072).
