Pop icon and noted rich man Cher may have once wondered how to turn back time and take back those words that have hurt you, but lately she’s more stuck on the issue of aging. Namely, when she’ll know she’s old.
On Saturday, May 20, which just so happened to be her 77th birthday, Cher took to Twitter to ask an age-old question about old age: When are we really, actually old?
In her trademark found poetry approach to tweeting (there’s no such thing as too many chaotic line breaks when you’re Cher-ing on social media), Cher returned to the platform to share her first tweets in two months.

Lest this be seen as a mere humblebrag complete with pausing for fans' “yesssss, what is old anyway?”/”you look so good for your age!”/”you’re aging in reverse!”/etc, Cher then drops a twist. After all, you don’t get to have such a long career without throwing in a few surprises to keep people on their toes and interested. In Cher’s case, she’s not just saying age ain’t nothing but a number, but also yes-anding herself with the sentiment that she….doesn’t understand numbers.
Whether she’s processing the actual numerals or not, there doesn’t seem to be any danger that the septuagenarian will be described as “old” any time soon: In a recent interview, the singer said that she was working on two new albums, and plans to tour later in 2023. She was recently dating A.E. Edwards, who is 40 years younger than her, and described their relationship as “on paper, kind of ridiculous, but in real life we get along great," but the couple has reportedly split.
In her usual fashion, Cher concluded her tweet—such a journey in so few characters!—with a non-sequitur and quick exit:
Nailed it.
