I am travelling to Boston in a couple of weeks and found accomodation in Chelsea, MA.
Is this a safe area to stay? Thank you for letting me know.
Parts of it are.
Parts of it are not.
parts are convenient to transit
Parts are not.
Where are you planning to stay?
I agree. There are parts of Chelsea, then there are other parts of Chelsea. Generally, it's not a neighborhood that tourists frequent.
Thanks for your mail. We will be staying at a airbnb at Franklin Avenue.
All reviews are very, very positive, but I'm just not sure about the area.
That's a nicer neighborhood there. 10 to 15 minute walk to transit to Boston
Chelsea can be gritty and rough around the edges, but it is not terribly dangerous.
Thank you !
Thank you! So, I suppose it is safe to walk to a bus stop to go to downtown Boston, or is it better to get an Uber?
Walk to the Silver Line MBTA service and take that into Boston
Thank you very much!!
Best way to get downtown would be the SL3 silver line or the 111 bus to Haymarket. There’s a great coffee shop right around the corner from where you’re staying called Pan & Cafe. People are right that Chelsea is not in the tourist path- but it will be a great unique real neighborhood experience. Chelsea is super vibrant - some amazing old architecture, and a lot of layers of culture. Today Chelsea is predominately Latino, largely Central American. There are some great places to eat downtown- I particularly like El Santaneco, a really great Salvadoran restaurant- the papusas there are to die for. There’s also Katz’s Bagels, which are a contender for best bagels in the Boston area - a holdover from when Chelsea used to be mostly Jewish. They claim to have invented the pizza bagel, but I can’t confirm. If you’re looking for something truly out of the ordinary, the only Russian bath I know of in the region is also right downtown. Enjoy!
