Chelsea booked their place in the Women's Champions League semi-finals for a second season running with a comfortable aggregate victory over Ajax.

Emma Hayes' side, who are chasing the quadruple this season, had a 3-0 lead from the first leg and only needed to complete the job at Stamford Bridge.

They got the early goal they craved when Mayra Ramirez slotted it through the legs of goalkeeper Regina van Eijk in the 33rd minute.

But Ajax were able to respond after the break as Chasity Grant raced onto a through ball to slide a shot past goalkeeper Zecira Musovic from close range.

Chances for both sides came and went in the first half, with neither team taking control, before Ajax stepped up their attempts to mount a comeback.

But Chelsea were composed as they did enough to seal qualification, while resting players before this weekend's Women's League Cup final against Arsenal.

It means USA-bound Hayes' hopes of winning the European crown for the first time with Chelsea remain alive in her final season with the club.

The Blues could face defending champions Barcelona next - they have a 2-1 lead going into Thursday's quarter-final with Norway's Brann - and Chelsea will hope to make amends for their semi-final defeat by the Spanish giants last season.

Chelsea midfielder Erin Cuthbert, who was named Player of the Match, speaking to Uefa.com, said: “We’re in the semi-finals, I’m delighted.

"It was a tough match tonight. Ajax did really well, they came out as we expected them to. Small margins in football, we could have put a little bit more away, give ourselves a bit more breathing room, but the job was really done in the first leg."

On goalscorer Mayra Ramírez: “She’s a nightmare [playing against] in training. She is so difficult to manage – defenders don’t know whether to get close as she’s really good at spinning, or hold off, she’ll turn. We are lucky to have her at Chelsea.”

Ajax captain Sherida Spitse has just been speaking with us in the media room.

She says she watches Chelsea - not all of their games - but she enjoys watching football.

"I think Chelsea is a really good team with a lot of international top players," said Spitse.

"They are always playing in the top of the league and to win it. I love football and watching football.

"I saw, for example today, Erin Cuthbert and how she is playing. I’m walking around the pitch with a smile on how she is playing.

"Of course she is our opponent but how she is playing is nice. How we played against them, I’m really proud of my own team."

Erin Cuthbert is always on the front foot and turns it over for Chelsea.

She is one of the players who makes a mistake, but gets back on the ball - she is brave.

She is one of the unsung heroes and she does the dirty work for Chelsea.

On Chelsea's quadruple chances...

I don't think they'll win the four, it's too much to ask - the Women's game is too good now.

Coming up against Arsenal [in the League Cup final at the weekend] is tough, is everyone going to be fit? The Champions League is going to be the hardest one to win.

At the moment Chelsea look strong and they do have the best depth in squad which counts for a lot and it will win them something.

This is the fifth time in seven seasons Chelsea have reached the Champions League semi-finals.

Ajax should have taken both of their chances [early in the first half].

You cannot afford to not take your chances against Chelsea, it was the same with West Ham at the weekend - they should have been 2-0 up.

If you don't take those chances then Chelsea decide to wake up and punish you.

Chelsea always create in games and you have to put your chances away against them.

It doesn't feel like Chelsea have just booked their place in the Champions League semi-finals.

That in itself shows the progression Chelsea have made in this competition - that this is not a surprise to see them in the last four.

They got the job done in Amsterdam and did enough to avoid any drama tonight.

Emma Hayes made seven changes, players' minutes were managed and they did not lose the game.

A good tie all round.

The Champions League is wide open.

If it's Barca [in the semi-final] it will be a great game, they are two very good teams.

Substitute Catarina Macario has a late chance for Chelsea, but away goalkeeper Regina van Eijk was quickly off her line to close down and smother the shot.

Ajax will come away feeling frustrated and gutted as they had the chance to go 2-0 up.

Ajax have shown tonight they are good enough to match Chelsea.

Five minutes of injury time. Chelsea doing exactly what they need to after their excellent away performance in the first leg.

Ajax are ending well, although still heading out. Danique Tolhoek spins and shoots from 25 yards but Zecira Musovic again has to leap at full stretch to keep it out.

Ajax substitute Soraya Verhoeve nearly gets really lucky with an attempted cross from close to the left touchline. She makes a mess of the cross, but nearly sees the ball loop in under the crossbar, only for Zecira Musovic to jump up and palm it off the line.

There is an amount of times Ajax players have run off the back shoulder of a Chelsea player.

Neither centre-back is aware where Romee Leuchter was, but it was a great save from Zecira Musovic.

Zecira Musovic was at fault for Ajax's goal but has made a brilliant save to keep it level on the night.

Romee Leuchter does excellently to jink past Jess Carter and curls an effort at goal, but Musovic flings herself to her left and gets a strong hand to it to push it away.
