G H It took me years getting around to watch this movie, only after I saw the Chef Show Netflix series did I bring myself to watch the film. Man I regret how long it took me, what a fantastic movie - for those in food or those who want to see someone who is so frustratingly content in life, break the mold and say f*** off I'm taking control of my life - watch this Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/14/22 Full Review Audience Member Meh. They took a great script made it Bollywoody and even that was bad. Bad Writing and Direction. Great acting went in vain. Saif needs to choose better. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Not actually a film critic, but maybe my review can help a bit, watched jon favreau chef twice i guess , both times felt good , the emotions felt real-had a connection to the movie twice so thats a really big deal, chef(2014) had its ups and downs, sometime the movie went drowning but it was also floating freely so i think it was ok-ok, but coming to the chef(2017) i felt the characters were trying really hard to push their limits, maybe they had a competition from the 2014 chef but this competition this comparison i think got them, and i think the movie went awfully down, because i watched sacred games before than chef(2017) so my expectations were a little high i guess, but i guess watching chef(2014) would be better, really better!! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member I suppose part of my rating is explained by the fact that I just don't like Saif Ali Khan. But it is even harder seeing a movie where he plays an angry not-so-young man, given that it doesn't suit him and also, no one is interested in another person's temper tantrums. Be that as it may, there are some uplifting moments in the movie - especially some of the scenes between the father and the son exploring various cuisines and also towards the end as it all comes together for the Kalra-Menon families. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member I had seen Jon Favreau's Chef and knew this to be the Bollywood rip over, well got to say they are two very different movies. While the plot premises is the same the storytelling differs, the Indian take is slow and all about father-son bonding, it does have few laughs but comes no were close to the fast-paced Hollywood version which besides covering the family angle is also a food adventure. For a movie titled Chef, it hardly covers the subject !!! Maybe if I had not seen the original I might have liked this more. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Not as good as the original, but worth watch and a good performance by Saif Ali Khan Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Shubhra Gupta The Indian Express There are some interesting flavours here, but Chef feels derivative, and doesn't come together as a fully satisfactory dish. Rated: 2/5 Jul 12, 2019 Full Review Namrata Joshi The Hindu The dynamics of modern-day, urban associations are well-observed. It's the uneven, jagged and lazy tone of the film that lets it down badly. Jul 10, 2018 Full Review Swetha Ramakrishnan Firstpost Not only does Saif look dapper in the film, he possibly bagged the best performance too. Oct 10, 2023 Full Review Saibal Chatterjee NDTV Chef is a feel-good drama that benefits from the nuanced colour palette that cinematographer Priya Seth... brings to the table. Rated: 3.5/5 Jul 23, 2020 Full Review Anna M.M. Vetticad Firstpost Saif Ali Khan, who I believe is one of Hindi cinema's most underrated actors, needs to choose better. Rated: 1.5/5 May 8, 2019 Full Review Rahul Desai Film Companion This is the one time the garam masalas needed some "masala" filmmaking. By the time some of it appears towards the end - that of the airport-running scene variety - there is reluctance to its sterility. Rated: 2.5/5 Feb 28, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews
