After the Cuban Revolution, Che is at the height of his fame and power. Then he disappears, re-emerging incognito in Bolivia, where he organizes a small group of Cuban comrades and Bolivian recruits to start the great Latin American Revolution. There are times when dividing a story into two parts is a great idea, and there are times when you should have just made "The Hobbit", at the very least, a duology.
Despite still some great cinematography that sees Steven still doing some little experimentation, though he seems to set more for the traditional, and Benicio still nails the role as Che, the story is nothing new, but it is rather dreary.
While I appreciate all the beautiful Bolivians, your revolution with the Che (at least as depicted here) was a snoozefest. A lot of the experimental or conflict that existed in the first part was missing in this part, and it felt like a rehash of the same part,…

In part 2 of Steven Soderbergh's Che, we flash forward to the late 60s as Ernesto Che Guevara sets his eyes on leading a band of revolutionaries in Bolivia. But we soon come to see this effort was doomed from the start. While some of the same issues I had from part one are still apparent here, this second part has a more well-rounded feel, which I thought helped it come together and bookend this two-film epic.

If part one is about Che the man, part two is about Che the idea. A working whirlpool of humanity, showing our propensity for selflessness being dragged down into the deep by our primal greed. A bastion of hope, of humanity pure willpower in the middle of the storm. A startling portrait of the beauty and diversity of Latin America representative of all humanity, shackled down by its oppressors captured vividly in each colorful frame. Men turning against men in service of a false purpose, The machines cogs grinding complete men into mere viscera. But if nothing else this film leaves us with hope, hope for the beauty of humanity to shine through the evil. The death of Che was not a defeat, rather a call for action, a call to help our fellow man.
If the first movie, with its 'Scope formatting, boosted colors and heavy borrowing from socialist propaganda came off like an exuberant epic, this movie, with its muted palettes, standard widescreen ratio and trembling handheld cameras is the paranoid and defeatist flip-side. If you didn't have a shrewd of knowledge of Che's Bolivian campaign, you could still tell within minutes that what's being covered is a doomed mission. This, too, is a showcase for the in-camera and editing suite capabilities of digital imagery, though it's funny in retrospect that more movies these days resemble the deliberately desaturated, miserablist tone here than the verdant, eye-popping quality of the first part.

Hi everybody, after writing two reviews, to each of the films, I stumbled over this Letterbox entry. This entry is for the complete work, means the film weren’t separated.
I didn’t had the chance to watch the movie as a complete work, but I watched them, after DVD release, in one session. So here now my review collection of „Che: The Argentine“ and „Che: Guerilla“, for this over four hours experience of „Che“.

A direção decaiu num nível absurdo, seriam 4.5 mas acaba tudo sendo meio confuso em alguns momentos. A história é épica, mas o diretor não conseguiu transmitir bem nessa parte.
O erro do Che foi acreditar demais. Um final trágico para um grande revolucionário.
Novamente falarei da direção, já que é o único ponto ruim dessa parte do documentário, tem horas que as cenas estão desfocadas, era pra ser estética?
A batalha final é muito boa, a emboscada infelizmente acaba com a missão dos guerrilheiros, é tudo muito brutal e seco. E a cena final da execução de Che foi muito bem feita, ele conversando com aquele soldado sobre como era…
My review yesterday of Che: Part One, in which I referred to Guevara as a great man, made me a target of at least two LB users. I blocked them fairly quickly (I've long since made it plain, I block people - it's in my bio) but it didn't stop one from writing 'reviews' of the film calling me a "homophobic arsehole". They also called my young friend Liam W the same thing, simply because he reported their hate speech. The 'reviews' have been promptly removed by LB admin, for which I am very grateful. Hi everybody, now the second part of a much too unknown and underrated masterpiece of cinema. It’s more an complete work separated in two films. Like „The Lord of the Rings“. Nevertheless, only in very few selected cinemas, this pic runs as an over four hours epic. Normally it runs as two movies, first part „Che: The Argentine“, we already wrote a review to that part and second part „Che: Guerilla“, the one you read right now.
The motion picture follows Che from 1965 to 1967, in his unsuccessful attempt, to start a revolution in Bolivia.

The mood has changed but the poetry still stays the same. Now the ideology seems to slowly face reality and man faces his mortality. Talk becomes talk and actions lose their power. The film is filled with melancholy, sadness because the character of Che seems to be from another reality. We can feel the need for revolution but the possibilities are starting to run out and it makes this film rather depressing and hard to get through. If everything felt possible in the first part of the one film, the second shows reality even if it still isn't quite sure to accept it as it is. Beautiful film that stays at the back of one's head.

A completely soul crushing experience but a beautiful film nonetheless. Shocking that Soderbergh was able to make a film about the true evils of the United States and Bolivian Governments. I still think about how the director of the stupid, piece of shit "Lego Movie", a movie that says if we are nice to evil dictators then we will solve capitalist imperialism, told Criterion not to advocate for Che, a revolutionary of the people who was executed by the CIA, and believing in the falsehoods of the US propaganda machine. Che Guevara hero, CIA and the USA bad.
