Gorgeous view! Very interesting. Short interesting movie. We didn’t get to spend a lot of time here because of traveling. Would like to go back when we have more time. The ginkgo tree was gorgeous and huge. Handicapped parking on side near house with a handicap entrance. Very small gift shop. Nice attendant. Easy to get to and free parking. Can spend as little or as much time as you like. Gorgeous grounds to sit and enjoy. Would probably take about an hour to read everything.

What a neat tour of the house and studio and grounds. Staff are so knowledgeable and friendly. We were able to walk up and secure a tour. The guides definitely give you history of the artist and the area.

Beautiful location packed with history. Must see the introduction film to get full appreciation. Great views of the river and the town. The displays were informative and well kept.

The house has quite the history. We watched a short film. We unfortunately got there near closing time and didn't get the see the whole house, but we did get to see all of the grounds..I bet this place was something in it's heyday!.They have a gift shop but didn't go.

A don’t miss civil war site. No charge for entry. Great views of town. Helps frame up the battle and the union position. The video is a great overview.

Enjoyed touring the house and the grounds. Saw a large groundhog on the bank by the river. Some old beautiful trees surround the building. Great view of Old Town Fredericksburg. Same view that the Union army had during the civil war.

A young ranger by the name, I think, of Maude, or similar, gave us an excellent oral history of General Grant. The park service should have her lead history talks at the house and battlefields.

The displays were very interesting but the video was very informative. Everything was well organized and staff was very helpful. Enjoyed strolling the grounds but would have been better in warmer weather.

This place was a haven for me growing up in Stafford County. That was many years ago, during the donation and conversion to park service time; when you could walk freely undisturbed. Chatham cemented in my soul, peace between a human and a garden, time immemorial.

This home is so special! This was our first visit to the area and seeing such a cool place in the history of the civil war was amazing. We really appreciated the rangers that were there to answer questions. The grounds are beautifully kept with an amazing view of the town and the river. You can definitely see why it was the desired property and one can also understand the amount of work that it takes to keep up such a property especially once the slaves were gone and slavery ended. We've visited Gettysburg several times over the years and this trip to Fredericksburg really showed us a different side to the war in an area ravaged for an extended period of time. We probably spent close to 2 hours here enjoying the property and it was definitely one of the hilites of our trip.
