I keep reading the varying reviews, and I believe I see the problem.

This is a classic old hotel. It is not so dissimilar from classic old pre-war hotels in NYC or Chicago. The property was built decades ago, and the structure shows it.

If you are looking for a breezy, sunlit, high ceilinged hotel, this is not for you. However, if you are looking for something along the lines of a classic high end NYC pro-war hotel, or even the Coronado, this place is for you. Rooms were built smaller than they are now. Things were made from bricks and mortar, so changing floor plans is harder, etc. Someone co.mented that the shower seemed like it was from the 1920s. That's the point. If you want the giant glass enclosed shower with water jets coming at you from all angles, go elsewhere.

The Chateu Marmont is ageless, but not for everyone. You pay for the the legend and service along with amenities, unlike answer hotel.

I cannot speak for rude service, we have always had good service there, but we don't spend a lot of time in the room. Of course there are aberrations in the level of service, but that happens everywhere.

I do agree it can be overpriced, especially some of the add-on services. And the room prices can vary wildly and often you can get rooms for much cheaper if you dig through some of the booking sites and play with your dates just a little.

Entering Chateau Marmont was like stepping back in time. You are greeted with a warm welcome and outstanding architecture enriched with rich fabrics and furnishings. It is completely different from the marble and metal entrench lobbies of many luxury hotels. These can be fabulous too. It just depends on your preference for your stay.
The dining room is an outdoor, covered garden where you are shelter from the elements. The service and the foods are both great.
The rooms are not modern so if that is what you are looking for it is not for you. If you want to feel like you are in a home with exceptional service and food it is ideal.
I would without a doubt stay there again.

Impossible to believe we were in West Hollywood and not at a private resort.

We stayed in one of the cottages for 2 nights before our honeymoon in Cabo. Needless to say we had a blast. The staff may have been short handed but the ones who were there went above and beyond to make us feel like VIPs.

Also the food and cocktails were amazing. We only ate outside the hotel one time. The bar and restaurant were gourmet quality and even when busier in the evenings, we still felt catered to. And it was pretty exciting for us southerners to be amongst all the industry peeps while at dinner

The pool area is so retro, old Hollywood chic AND we ran into a super friendly Greys Anatomy star (Justin chambers) who frequents CM just for drinks and hanging out. I’d heard that Jeff Goldblum frequents there but no such luck for us this time.

The rooms aren’t super luxurious but they’re very true to the original history so you can’t have both. The charm and hospitality more than makes up for the lack of modern posh.

We stayed here for a few nights while visiting our family. I guess the hotel relies on its history of entertaining local stars and dignitaries etc but to be fair as a guest its really not great. The food is very poor .We had dinner for four which was $550.00 and the food was tasteless. Down the road about a 5 mins walk is an amazing rib and steak joint which was terrific with v v tasty food. The breakfast is sort of Ok but forget it if you want it before 8.00 am as the staff seem to clock on then. We had a cottage. They are very tired. Minimum facilities. The coffee machine did not work and it all seemed very dated and uncomfortable. The pool is quite small and very noisy with traffic just outside. The pool bar which could have been great seemed to close at 5pm just when one needed a sundowner and swim. The outside space is totally lit by the surrounding advertising hoardings which dominate the area. We left very sad and disappointed.

This is one of my favorite hotels anywhere, and I am on the road as many as 100 nights a year. A lot has been written about this place so what can I add? I guess the highest praise I can offer is that each time I’ve stayed here, I’ve felt at home. Truly.

For this one week trip we had a one bedroom suite which was spacious and peaceful, giving us room to spread out and rest. The bedroom was as we like our rooms at home: quiet and bright during the day and pitch dark at night with two big step in closets, one with a dresser. The kitchen was well equipped and we ate a few meals at the dining table. The living room was more than enough for three of us to lay around comfortably and the terrace was lovely.

The staff can make or break a hotel and the staff at the Chateau appears to be made up of career hospitality professionals who are at once amazingly attentive and discrete. The public areas are beautiful in the way stately old homes are beautiful. No, you will not find the slickest gizmos and displays one sees in the oversized spaces of some luxury hotels. What you will find is comfort, discretion and an interesting collection of fellow visitors. And yes, some of them may be recognizable but the vibe is, genuinely, “who cares,” as opposed to “let’s get a selfie,” or even worse, “do you know who I am?” Phew.

I don’t want to short change the restaurant because it is wonderful. Again, picture eating delicious and consistent food in the garden of an old European home and you’ve got the idea. OK, so they missed a thing or two here and there, or were a bit slow at times. Really, did we care? No more than we cared about the scuff in this carpet or the dig on that table: We were too relaxed to fuss about these trivialities.

Similar to the other areas of the property, don’t expect a vegas-style aquatic center back at the pool. Instead, think “backyard pool at someone’s old mansion,” but with top shelf drinks being whipped up out there.

Idk what this idiotic IG term “quiet luxury” means. But, if it means anything good, or if it signals the luxury of quality space, people and dining, none of which has to scream luxury to get your attention or approval, then this hotel defines it. All in all this is one of those rare places I look for an excuse to return to, and to stay a while.

Quirky, magical, and truly wonderful. We went to the bar the first night to have a martini, and they sent different people to ask us for our room number at least five times, which, at some point is rude. But hey, it’s The Chateau, so I get it. That was literally the only problem we had the entire weekend. Otherwise the staff was wonderful, friendly, and helpful. The rooms are beautiful. Do not expect them to have futuristic gadgets, but expect everything to be sophisticated and impeccably maintained. There were secret hidey-holes tucked in here and there throughout the place. The pancakes were a dream, and the club sandwich is mind-blowing. I don’t know if I could ever stay anywhere else. Just book it and expect magic.

I had a lovely time at the Chateau Marmont when I went for my birthday brunch. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous and I love that it is full of Hollywood history. The courtyard where we ate was beautiful and relaxing. All the staff that we encountered were exceedingly kind and accommodating. You are asked not to take photos out of respect for the privacy of other patrons so I just have one of my food and a courtyard shot that has no people in it. Understandably, there are a lot of clientele who would prefer not to have photos taken so I wanted to honor that request. I ordered the shakshuka and it was delicious. My whole family really enjoyed their meal and the atmosphere. I'll be back, hopefully to stay for a while next time!

I was in the LA area on business and decided to say 'no' to the corporate hotel experience and stay for 5 nights at the Chateau Marmont. It DID NOT disappoint.

I was greeted with cold white wine and warm nuts and olives in my 3 room suite when I arrived. What a welcome!! When you hear people say that this hotel "feels like home" - it really does. My refrigerator was stocked with drinks and drink mixers. And not cheap drink mixers either. My fridge has 4 cans Ghia - spicy/artisanal seltzers that I had just bought at home, real coke in the bottle and plenty of waters and juices. The abundant snack tray was complimentary and was replenished daily.

But aside from the stocked snacks and welcome delights, I had basically a small apartment that had thoughtful, comfortable decor, excellent sunlight, perfect bedding, and a dream balcony that faced east looking over the pool, past the iconic Chateau Marmont sign, and down the sunset strip. It was fabulous!

There was a big white orchid in bloom in the living room, and a bunch of gorgeous fresh flowers on my dining room table. Room service was fast and the food was delicious. The note pad next to each of the 2 phones said "dial 0 for anything.' My favorite was the personalized letterpress stationery that read "In residence" and my name.

Staying at the Chateau Marmont I was able to both be productive and relax. It's not cheap but for me it was worth EVERY penny.

Compared to the Beverly Hills Hotel, the four seasons or The Peninsula this hotel falls way short, not even a comparison and they are all at the same price point. I know it’s a “hideaway” for celebrities but in all honesty it’s not that great. Especially for $1,000 a night.

It wasn’t being renovated when I was there last month, but may well be, perhaps give them a call The lobby is behind bar / lounge so if celebs are not in bar you can watch lobby from a comfy chair with drink in hand! Enjoy !

Bar marmont is still under renovation. You can make a dinner reservation for the patio or sit at the bar inside the lobby for drinks at the actual hotel.

Stop in and certainly have a drink or better yet, breakfast or lunch. Have dinner around 7Pm and linger in the lobby lounge. Be mindful of the code of the Chateau, there is no photography permitted in the restaurant or lounge or lobby area. Doing so will give you stern looks and possibly a request to leave, plus it will identify you as "not belonging" or as an outsider to the culture. Once you are within the confines of Chateau Marmont, you DO belong because you ARE there. Act like it and blend. Be cool, no gawking or gushing. And for goodness sakes, do NOT approach anyone you might think is a star, celebrity or VIP. Remember yourself. Soak in the ambiance and the history and savor it.
