Just for fun, I asked Chat-GPT4 to draw up an itinerary for Namibia. Here is the query:

"Come up with a detailed, day-by-day, two week, self-drive itinerary for two people in Namibia."

And here is the bot's response:

Great, here's a two-week itinerary for two people on a self-drive adventure in Namibia:

Day 1: Arrival in Windhoek

Upon arrival at Hosea Kutako International Airport in Windhoek, pick up your rental car and check in to your hotel. Spend the day exploring Windhoek and visiting attractions such as the Christ Church, the National Museum of Namibia, and the Katutura Township.

Day 2: Windhoek to Sossusvlei

Drive to Sossusvlei, a desert area famous for its red sand dunes, which can be over 300 meters tall. En route, stop at the small town of Solitaire for some of their famous apple pie. Check into your accommodation and spend the afternoon exploring the dunes and enjoying the stunning views.

Day 3: Sossusvlei

Explore Sossusvlei and the surrounding area, including the Sesriem Canyon and Deadvlei. Be sure to catch the sunrise or sunset over the dunes for some amazing photo opportunities.

Day 4: Sossusvlei to Swakopmund

Drive to Swakopmund, a coastal city known for its German architecture and outdoor activities. En route, stop at Walvis Bay to see the flamingos and go on a dolphin and seal cruise. Check into your accommodation in Swakopmund and spend the evening exploring the town.

Day 5: Swakopmund

Spend the day in Swakopmund, visiting the crystal gallery, trying sandboarding or quad biking, and enjoying some fresh seafood at a local restaurant.

Day 6: Swakopmund to Damaraland

Drive to Damaraland, an area known for its beautiful rock formations and ancient rock art. Stop at Cape Cross to see the colony of seals and visit Twyfelfontein, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is home to thousands of ancient rock carvings.

Day 7: Damaraland

Explore Damaraland, visiting attractions such as the Organ Pipes, Burnt Mountain, and the Petrified Forest. Take a guided tour to learn more about the local culture and history.

Day 8: Damaraland to Etosha National Park

Drive to Etosha National Park, one of Africa's premier game reserves. Check into your accommodation and spend the afternoon on a self-drive safari, looking for lions, elephants, giraffes, and other wildlife.

Day 9: Etosha National Park

Spend the day on safari in Etosha National Park, visiting waterholes and keeping an eye out for the park's abundant wildlife.

Day 10: Etosha National Park

Another day to explore Etosha National Park, with the option of taking a guided night drive to see some of the park's nocturnal animals.

Day 11: Etosha National Park to Waterberg Plateau Park

Drive to Waterberg Plateau Park, a stunning natural area that is home to a variety of wildlife and bird species. Check into your accommodation and spend the afternoon exploring the park on foot.

Day 12: Waterberg Plateau Park

Take a guided tour of Waterberg Plateau Park to learn about the area's history and wildlife. Spend the rest of the day relaxing and enjoying the park's peaceful atmosphere.

Day 13: Waterberg Plateau Park to Windhoek

Drive back to Windhoek, stopping at the Okahandja Woodcarvers' Market to pick up some souvenirs. Check into your hotel and spend the rest of the day exploring the city.

Day 14: Departure

Return your rental car and catch your flight home.

Not too bad. I might try this in the future for other places just to double check and perhaps find an unknown gem!

Good! I would add 1 night in Etosha and stay only 1 in Waterberg, but this Chat-GPT4 trip is planned much better than several rushed trips we read every day online!

I'd certainly include the tour to Sandwich Harbour and a night at Spitzkoppe.

Well with certain reservations, that would work for a lot of folks.

My fine tuning would be 4-5. Don't book the cruise until 5th, no way you could make it up from Sesreim in time on 4th.

More Etosha and shorten Waterburg.

Drop 13..

I think by fine-tuning the query, one could get a more refined itinerary. I am also not quite certain about how accurately this bot is calculating the driving times - lot of driving involved in the itinerary. But I agree that it is an excellent starting point that can be revised according to individual needs. Excellent starting point is basically what Chat-GPT does.
