Don't bother
movie-person-2316 January 2021
You know those movies that are so bad they're weirdly good? Well this one is just regular bad. Written by people who are clearly out of touch, the story flows like a brick falling down a set of stairs.

Plus: Why does Lanter's hair change lengths shot to shot? Why is his fake beard so fake looking? Why does it feel like it was edited by a teenager? The lack of attention to detail is wild.

At the time of writing this, the film's rated a generous 3.8. Maybe once the review from definitely-not-cindy-jansen-55 drops it'll finally become the smash hit the creators thought it would be.

Trial and Triumph
silvasiembra7 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This film is a powerful rollercoaster of a film. It's full of the ups and downs of life which keep you in suspense. Its a good depiction of how one person's life decisions can impact so many people. Some will dismiss you as a loser while others will still believe in you; no matter what. This is a movie that brings hope to the ones who want to continue having hope. It gives hope to those who question God's existence. It gives you encouragement in society no matter how bad it seems. An excellent movie which is well done and leaves you wanting to yell out a shout of triumph. My congratulations to the Director, Actors, and everyone else involved in making this film.

Brilliant, Moving, Inspiring. One of my New All-Time Favourites.

I can't remember the last time I was left this moved by a movie. Contemplative, sincere, piercingly honest, tragic, healing. It wakes you to the transcendant power of hope no matter the cards you've been dealt. Every actor was perfect for their role. The melancholic pick-me-up I didn't know I needed. Watch it!

Thought-provoking

Chasing the Rain is the first film written, directed, and produced by Cindy Jansen. I was amazed when I watched this film for the first time. It was an authentic account of a young man's journey from his dysfunctional family as a youth to his attempts at coping with life as an adult. I actually purchased the film during my 2nd viewing and have recommended it to my family and friends. It is thought provoking, sincere, and engaging. Congratulations to Ms. Jansen on her first film. Well done.

Struggling to help
celt0075 January 2021
A man who loves photography and helping the poor in Kenya finds himself afflicted with a debilitating illness . He rejects love and is forced to confront a past he wishes to escape . Contemplative , tragic , sad ... It's not a big budget film but it is well acted and has several messages and works to pull the viewer in .

A Powerful Film About Hope When It's Needed Most
markvisoprano19 December 2020
For those who have ever known suffering, real suffering, and ached to find answers, this film will resonate, validate, and heal.

Its message of hope triumphing over despair transcends geographical, social, and cultural boundaries. Every character in this film is searching for something - healing, fulfillment, love, purpose, redemption - and we know them all. They are our friends, our coworkers, our sons and daughters, our neighbors. They're all of us, really, at times. Treading water, gasping for air, thrashing against the current, and still thirsting. Yet among the pain and suffering, there are moments of joy, much-needed laughter, beauty, and art. The humor endears us to the characters, gives a reprieve from the relentless hardships, and reminds us of God's provision and little joys in a broken world. It isn't overwhelming or forced; it is just enough.

Chasing the Rain inspires self-reflection, kindles empathy, unseats complacency, and quenches a thirst for healing.

Blown away by this powerfull movie.

I just finished watching it, with a tear in my eye, what a great movie. No matter how beaten down you are, you are never out, unless you choose to be out. Very raw and brutally honest in his suffering, give it a watch, it worth the time.

The Problem of Pain
jkrenz-8306121 December 2020
Thirsting. Parched. Looking for water in all the wrong places. Chasing the Rain tackles the problem of pain and suffering with raw honesty and stark realism. For once, a film with strong Christian themes that doesn't propose God as the easy solution to all of life's problems. Here are real sinners with real struggles in a fallen world. Here is a God with hard edges, the God hidden under the cross and suffering, the Hound of Heaven in pursuit of the fleeing soul. God may appear silent in suffering, but He is present in it for the sufferer. The baptismal imagery is particularly poignant. Also fun to see N. T. Wright in what may be his film-acting debut.

Great movie!! While deep and emotional at times, you will be pleasantly surprised with the comic relief. A very relatable film that tugs at your heart strings and compels you to never lose hope. Definitely a must watch!!!!

Gritty, real performances with the perfect touch of humor!
amyd-6014921 December 2020
Creative writing brings insights that will stick with you, original music you'll want for your own playlists, and impressive filming & acting that will have you questioning this as a 'low-budget indie.'

Can't get this line out of my head! ... "I don't know why some people suffer through drought longer than others, but the rain always comes eventually. And when it does, the desperate, barren, thirsty earth quenches itself in a way that the lush, green earth could never imagine or understand. And I have to live in this tension because that is where the fire is."

Loved it!!

Surprisingly gritty as it should be.

I thought this was gonna be your typical low budget, faith-based movie. Boy was I surprised. Great placement of strong language and mild sexual content made it so authentic. The ending was powerful and made the point intended. Great writing, acting and directing by all.
