New Dundee United signing Charlie Mulgrew wants to "give everything back" to the club after signing a two-year deal at Tannadice.

The 35-year-old arrives for a second stint with United, having enjoyed a loan spell from Celtic in 2006.

The former Scotland defender spent last season on loan at Fleetwood Town from Blackburn Rovers, making 23 appearances for the English League One side.

"The minute I heard from Dundee United I just got so excited," Mulgrew said.

"That's where I started my career. Straight away I just thought it was a club I knew and had an affiliation with."

Mulgrew will work under recently-appointed United boss Tam Courts, who is relatively inexperienced in his managerial career.

But despite Courts' limited CV, Mulgrew - who has been capped 44 times for Scotland - told the Euros Breakfast Show that he was impressed by the new manager's knowledge.

"Just speaking to him, I couldn't believe the amount of stuff he knew," Mulgrew said.

"You just know he's going to put everything into the job. That's what you want as a player. I'm delighted to be there."
