Should I go airborne?

I guess it’s in the title. I have the opportunity to go to airborne school but I’m on the fence about it. On the one hand I heard its a great school and you get to wear a maroon beret and get a pay bump. On the other I could get stationed away from mainland U.S. I’m leaning towards not doing it but I haven’t been to the big army yet (out of OSUT though) so I don’t know if I’d be throwing something really great away. What do y’all think?

I’ll just have a vanilla milkshake to go, thanks.

I mean, it’s not a “great school” but it’s free chest candy right out of boot camp, and a pay bump. There’s a slim chance you get station oconus, but there’s a chance of that if you don’t go airborne, unless you already had duty station in your contract. Statistically you’d end up at Bragg. Wearing a beret sucks, but it does look better than a PC IMO.

I’ll tell you that I hate being airborne. I just don’t like doing it and the money isn’t worth it to me. HOWEVER, my time in airborne units has been significantly better than my time in leg units. The leadership is better, the readiness is better, the missions are better, the esprit de corps is better, the further schooling opportunities are better, and the hats are better.

"The further schooling opportunities are better..." it's this one for me, I've been in 7.5 years and I legit only have 4 points from CLS under residential military training. I've met a guy that went to Sec+ training as a SPC and he said it was worth 12 points. 12 points and you get a cert that can help you on the outside...

My experience as well. This was 21 years ago, and it was completely stupid my MOS had airborne slots (you can't airdrop our equipment), but it was the only bonus available at the time, plus monthly pay and promotion points, if you're in a slot. Plus it can be fun in the right units.

No, you should be a boring leg instead

On the other I could get stationed away from mainland U.S.

That's like, about the best thing about the army.

Airborne is silly but some people enjoy it. Do whatever you can that you're interested in, you are only young once.

You joined the Army to do Soldier stuff, Airborne is one of those, and not many people get the chance to do it.

Go to any and every school you are offered.

  1. School are not available to everyone, and you may not get another chance

  2. some schools open more opportunities for you later (such as faster promotion)

  3. if you are successful, you won’t be a dirty nasty leg.

Yes. Next slide.

Yes, if you enjoy the tall pine trees of central North Carolina.

Sometimes the pines just really like a Soldier and don’t want to let them go.

If you are being offered Airborne while in OSUT there is a 90-98% chance you would go to Fort Bragg (Not calling it Liberty).

It is very unlikely you go to Italy.

I don’t know, do you want to continue having a small penis or would you want to go through the Joint Urethra Enlargement Program (JUMP)? The choice is yours

Yes.

Why wouldn’t you? Only a damn dirty leg would turn down airborne school

If it’s airborne and straight to Biberty, and that’s what you want, then do it. Or if that’s not what you want, then don’t.

If it’s airborne and then anything goes vs guaranteed something you want, then go for what you value more.

Away from “mainland”???

I’ll assist: CONUS (Continental US) and OCONUS (Outside Continental US)

Best parts of Army is happening OCONUS.

Do it. The units are better. And that’s not an “airborne pride, fuck legs” statement. That’s based off mission set, funding and head shed. 173rds headshed is stacked and they get after it in training. 82nds got the budget of a 2nd world country. Gman is a the Wild West, 2/11 (RIP 4/25) is going through some growing pains but school opportunities in specialized tasks is through the roof. Join the airplane gang.
