Lynne F Lots of pretentious folks trying to dissect this movie so they can appear relevant. The movie was entertaining, start to finish. It's not gonna win an Oscar for sure. But for what it is, it's worth the time. I thought the top 5 actors did a very respectable job of creating characters (Michael, Audrey, Ray, Warden, Jefferson). Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/04/22 Full Review dave j Monday, July 7, 2014 (2011) Cell 213 PSYCHOLOGICAL HORROR Cocky, philandering, lawyer, Michael Grey (Eric Balfour) who often attempts to free convicted murderers and rapists would do whatever it takes to win a case, even if it means resorting to unethical practices such as using scare tactics to scare crucial witnesses. Upon Michael visiting one of his clients, who's name is Charlie, who verbally confessed to raping and then killing an underage girl. Once conversing with Charlie at a closed room, he would then unexpectedly grab Michael's hand while holding his pen and then jab it onto his neck. Because there was no witnesses, except for the very resentful prison guard, Ray Clement (Michael Rooker) who just happened to walk in after Charlie was killed, Michael Grey then gets prosecuted and put in jail and placed into the same cell where, Charlie the child molester went berserk which is "Cell 213"- hence the title. And it is during this time is when Michael Grey start to hallucinate the same demons as Charlie. Watching this movie is like re-living a very bad dream since Michael Grey is an unlikable lawyer who frees admitted rapists and murderers, and as a result of attempting to receive the same treatment, he gets rejected from the very firm who hired him in the first place just because it has a reputation that needs to be respected. And although, this is a straight to rental movie, I like the direction this movie was conveying, which I started hating Michael to cheering for him since he was portrayed as an underdog as the movie was progressing. I'd just wish there could've been a better ending since as the saying goes, "Two wrongs don't make it right". 2.5 out of 4 stars Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Saw the movie yesterday, and it was horrible. Do ur self a favor, don't waste a penny on this one. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member I'd rather go see Priest. In 3D! Two times over and over. Yes, Cell 213 is that fuckin' horrible. An inplausible story, all set up by an inconceivable verdict (where were the witnesses?!?), craptastic acting and distortion effects that take away from the movie, Cell 213 is one giant ugly mess of ass. This is probably the worst movie of all time, I mean I'd take P2, Prince Caspians and goddamn Disney Cars in a heartbeat! It's ugly looking, even for a prison movie. It's dreary and faded, uneven and just unsettling. Sure, its partially a horror and a thriller, but I was more grossed out due to the fact you just know this Canadian shit was filmed in a dirty ass warehouse, so all that grime and nastiness is real, not actual set dressing! So what's this "film" about? Well now, a certain cell in prison *hint hint 213* correlates with a verse in the book of Revelations, and TA DA, you have your root for a supernatural blow-hard story about Satan's seat of temptation. Cons are forced to endure horrifying psychological trauma from Satan's house of hell, deep fears within brought upon by there life of greed, deceit and malevolence. Michael Gray (Eric Balfour) must face Satan's seat, figure out how he's supposed to redeem himself and his life, and go from there. However,he is merely a corrupt lawyer. Yes, he pays off bounty hunters to "scare" off witnesses, but I never felt he deserved all the shit that happens to him. Maybe if he was a serial rapist or pedophile, but wow, it all felt excessive and cruel. And yes, I've seen the Saw movies and they aren't as bad. The ending is very depressing too, nothing cathartic, nothing to learn. Just "let's throw this other mean guy" in the cell. What diahrrea this is. If you see this, you're only torturing yourself. At least the actors got paid....I hope. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

James Adams Globe and Mail Cell 213 is hokum, atmospheric hokum to be sure, but hokum all the same. Rated: 1.5/4 Jun 10, 2011 Full Review Bruce DeMara Toronto Star A few scary moments don't make up for the maddeningly uneven and implausible tale. Rated: 1.5/4 Jun 9, 2011 Full Review Steve Newton Georgia Straight The film's overall quality rarely rises above decent direct-to-video product, and its underlying theme...is a tad ambitious, all things considered. Rated: 2/5 Dec 12, 2015 Full Review John Noonan FILMINK (Australia) Sometimes confusing and overwrought when it should be lean and scary, Cell 213 would perhaps fare better as a mini-series. Nov 5, 2015 Full Review Paul Chambers Movie Chambers The lawyer in cell 213 could use half a brain. He's one of the dumbest horror movie protagonists to come along in some time.
