A romantic dramedy with boring, stock characters and contrived situations.

Claudia Puig USA Today Release yourself from boredom by giving it a miss. Rated: 1.5/4 Sep 1, 2007 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian A ghastly sort of Nora Ephron-ish good taste pervades this romcom-tearjerker. Rated: 1/5 Mar 24, 2007 Full Review Stella Papamichael BBC.com Juliette Lewis helps break the monotony with a sparkling turn as a ditsy skeleton in the dead fiancé's closet and Kevin Smith spouts a few good zingers as the slacker housemate. Sadly it's not enough to catch and keep hold of your interest. Rated: 2/5 Mar 23, 2007 Full Review Randall King Winnipeg Free Press The film slowly and credibly builds a bridge between two diametrically opposite individuals. Call it another little triumph. Rated: 3.5/5 Jul 16, 2020 Full Review Joshua Starnes ComingSoon.net A story of self-discovery Catch and Release is ... well it's horribly, horribly dull is what it is. It's like an entire season of a mediocre primetime soap opera squeezed into a couple of hours. Rated: 5/10 Mar 18, 2011 Full Review Walter Chaw Film Freak Central ...harbours a secret crush on Gray but, hey, so does everybody, since Gray has fairies and butterflies flying out of her vagina. Christine B I loved this movie! I usually agree with Rotten Tomatoes but this time, nope. All the characters had value and this was such a touching and at times, very funny movie. It's nice to see people being good to each other in the worst of situations. I like to play this movie and enjoy the feeling of spending some time in "Patagonia Disneyland." JUST TRY IT. It's a cool movie that we don't often see these days. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/02/24 Full Review stefani e Good and likeable characters, and an interesting plot that could've been carried out much better. The weird pacing and bad scene order ruin the movie. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/18/23 Full Review Erica S This is a long time favorite and in rewatching I can better appreciate the quiet pacing of the writing and acting. It feels like the breathing one takes when the world tips on its axis. Jennifer Garner's sweetness and full participation in life shine through. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/13/22 Full Review Audience Member Very romantic, sexy movie with a bit of sadness; just the right amount. Love the connection and fire between Jennifer Gardner and Thimothy Olyphant, their acting feels really real. I still think Jennifer should have chosen Sam Jaeger who is less of a playboy but still a great ending. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review shelly l The plot of this movie was so strange. Jennifer Garner starts sleeping with her dead fiance's best friend that knew he had been cheating on her and lied about the kids' age to cover for him. He only confessed when she met the boy & called him out on it. She also wants to continue supporting the dead fiance's "love child" that's a total brat that she finds out isn't even biologically his because she said the fiance had wanted to support him. He obviously only wanted to support him because he thought he was his and it was probably also hush money to keep his mistress from telling on him. Then in the end she chooses to end up with the best friend even though he has no redeeming qualities instead of the sweet guy that's been secretly crushing on her for years. The writers of this movie completely made my head hurt. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review corkball Navel gazing dreck. I watched this because it had Jennifer Garner in it, who is intermittently good in films, but this was a down day. No idea why she like Oliphant - he is sleezy and that creepy smile makes him look like a serial killer. No doubt he got his role in Die Hard from the casting director watching this film. The rest of the film is horrible self-searching melodrama done to a horrible indie soundtrack while everyone lives cooped up in some sort of hippie commune. Eesh. They even wasted Kevin Smith in this. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
