Mel Brooks Favorite
Carol Arthur was married to comic actor DeLuise and was a favorite of Mel Brooks. She starred as the uptight schoolmarm Harriett Van Johnson in the Brooks’ classic “Blazing Saddles.” She had roles in three of Brooks’ other films, including “Silent Movie” alongside DeLuise was also a Mel Brooks regular. Arthur was also known for playing “Safety Sadie” in public service spots for the Consumer Product Safety Commission. She met DeLuise in 1963 at the Provincetown Playhouse, and they were married from 1965 until his death in 2009.
