IN THE MORNING

While I’m still in bed…

…I spend 10 minutes on Pause, a meditation app. I’ve tried so many times to meditate but never succeed, and this has made a real difference to my day and helps me center myself. I then start my day with an espresso and a Marlboro Red. It’s a bad but very French routine and I’ve stopped feeling guilty about it. Breakfast is gluten-free toast with olive oil on it, dipped in my coffee. Which doesn’t sound that tasty, but I love it.

I started to do ballet 10 years ago…

…not to be a ballerina, but to keep me in good shape and to correct my posture. I believe that what makes a woman age is not her wrinkles but the way she carries herself and how she stands. In another life, I would have loved to have been a ballerina.

I’ve also recently discovered boxing…

…and it makes me so happy and puts me in such a great mood. I box to very loud classical music like Bach, Beethoven, Chopin. The contrast is surprisingly invigorating!

My makeup style is very organic…

…but it’s my recipe. I love a smoky eye look that looks slept-in, like when you wake up with eye makeup still on. I also cut my own hair, or if I happen to be on a shoot with a hairdresser I’ve known for many years, I let them trim it. For color I only see Michel Cathou at a small salon in Paris by the Rue de Faubourg Saint-Honoré – I’ve been going to see him ever since I was at Vogue Paris.

IN THE EVENING

I always wear fragrance…

…even when I don’t go out, and I constantly reapply it throughout the day – I’m a fragrance addict and adore heady scents. I’ve just launched my own range and the best piece of business wisdom I got from [NET-A-PORTER founder] Natalie Massenet was: ‘You cannot please everyone’. People think I’m very confident but I’m always insecure, so it really helped me hearing this. I always follow this advice and its worked so far.

The perfect dinner would be…

…at a place that has good service. I love a place with good lighting too, because at night you want to feel beautiful. That’s why I never go to a brasserie in Paris; instead, I’ll go to a place like Caviar Kaspia, because it makes you feel beautiful. Unfortunately, I’m not the biggest fan of caviar, I prefer herring. It’s a cheap treat in Russia, and one of the cheapest dishes on the menu at Caviar Kaspia too, so you can invite me to dinner there. I’m not so demanding!

My favorite city to sleep in is Paris…

…I’m a true Parisian and I love to go to sleep in my own bed. Recently, I was wondering which city I would ultimately like to live in, because I travel so much, and Tom Ford asked me, “Where would you like to die?” I said I would like to die in Paris, to which he replied, “So that’s the city where you should live!” I followed his advice and here I am, mostly living in Paris and staying as long as I can in my city.

On my bedside table…

…I have three bottles of water, because I always drink a lot of water at night, and I have a small box of sleeping pills close by. I rarely use them, but I like having them around in case I can’t get to sleep.
