Audience Member Starts off good but then goes like "ohhh look at me I'm a smart business person!" Then I stopped watching it... Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member "Now that you're no longer CEO, who's in charge?" "The economic situation." "Who is 'the economic situation'?" "A fat whore...who runs everything, everywhere." Marx: "The finance aristocracy, in its mode of acquisition as well as in its pleasures, is nothing but the resurrection of the lumpenproletariat at the top of bourgeois society." Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member It's not great. It's much better than anything Hollywood could make. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member The story is about the greed of the banks and that's about it - Sadly the "Le Capital" is slow and monotonous from beginning till end. Pass Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member The financial industry gets a taste of their own medicine - as Costa-Gavras employs cynicism to rebut cynicism. John Anderson Newsday Director Costa-Gavras takes a vaguely facetious tone toward the evils of global finance, which he concludes is a game for gluttonous boys. Rated: 3/4 Nov 1, 2013 Full Review Michael Sragow Orange County Register It's a bit like what The Godfather would have been if it had been set in "The Bank of Evil" from Despicable Me -- and if its antihero were a cipher instead of Michael Corleone. Rated: C+ Nov 1, 2013 Full Review Robert Abele Los Angeles Times What's lacking is most surprising from this dissident filmmaker: the emotional outrage. Nov 1, 2013 Full Review David Walsh World Socialist Web Site The most recent film from Greek-born director Costa-Gavras, best known for Z (1969), State of Siege (1972) and Missing (1982), is Capital, a scathing assault on the world of financial speculation. Feb 12, 2021 Full Review Dan Mecca The Film Stage A fast-paced, cynical piece of entertainment that serves as a surprisingly simple criticism of our uneven system of dollars and cents. Rated: B Jun 22, 2016 Full Review Craig D. Lindsey Philadelphia Weekly Costa-Gavras certainly found an intriguing leading man in Elmaleh, with his ice-cold stare that may remind audiences of Steve McQueen at his most penetrating.
