Liverpool look likely to sell Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher next summer, according to reports.
The Cork native has enjoyed plenty of memorable moments between the posts since joining Liverpool from Ringmahon Rangers back in 2015.
Primarily used as a starter in domestic cup competitions, Kelleher played a starring role in Liverpool’s League and FA Cup successes last season.
Having kept a clean sheet in last year’s Carabao Cup final against Chelsea, the 24-year-old went on to steal the show as he struck the winning penalty in the eventual shootout.
He is no stranger to the pressure of penalties and his six saves in four shootouts for Liverpool is a club record.
However, his impressive performances have always provoked speculation over a move away from Anfield in the name of regular first team football, and The Athletic are now reporting that Liverpool will sell the stopper this summer.
With Liverpool’s Alisson Becker regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the game, Kelleher’s chances of graduating from understudy to the No.1 role appear slim.
And with Liverpool looking to pull out all the stops to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham in the summer, selling Kelleher would go some way towards funding the move.
The Atheltic report that a number of Premier League clubs are interested in signing Kelleher, with his age profile and big game experience proving attractive to a number of suitors.
While there has been little noise from Kelleher’s camp regarding a move, becoming a starter at a Premier League club may ultimately prove to be hard to resist.
His rival for the Republic of Ireland No.1 jersey Gavin Bazunu joined Southampton from champions Manchester last summer and has already amassed 20 Premier League appearances for the Saints – 16 more than Kelleher’s Liverpool total.
