Best "eye candy" house tours in Charleston

Greetings, Travelers!

Which Charleston house tours have the most furnishings and decorations?

We like a lot of "eye candy" when we visit houses, mansions, villas, etc.

By the way, I received a reply from the Williams/Calhoun mansion this morning: They are still closed.

Thank you!

I suggest you visit the websites for photos.

It’s been my experience that homes are chosen for their architectural beauty and significance to Charleston’s history, so if looking for an abundance of “eye candy” you might find the Preservation Society’s fall event would suit you. You just missed the 2024 Charleston Festival.

To find out which private homes will be featured you’ll have to wait until the event draws closer.

Also Christmas in Charleston with all the homes decked out is wonderful!

Of the house museums, the National Russell House has the most glitz, gilt paint, lush portraits etc. Edmonston-Alston House is 2nd, and the others don't have much furniture or restored finishes.

With the exception of what Julia already been mentioned, all the "eye candy" mansions in Charleston are still privately owned. No tours available inside. Walking along the Battery and White Point Gardens is the best you'll get.

Nathaniel Russel is tops for us. Gazing at the staircase is worth the price of admission. Go now, it is soon to be sold!

McKee, they decided not to sell it, too much backlash.
