Who Is Candace Cameron Bure?

At the age of 11, Candace Cameron Bure landed the role of D.J. Tanner on Full House that launched her career. She married NHL player Valeri Bure in 1996 and had three children together. She works with Christian organizations and in 2016 reprised her role as D.J. in Fuller House.

Early Life

Born on April 6, 1976, in Panorama City, California, Cameron Bure is the daughter of Barbara, a talent manager, and Robert, a gym teacher. She is also the younger sister of actor Kirk Cameron, whose starring role on the popular '80s sitcom Growing Pains provided the inspiration for her own screen pursuits.

Cameron Bure launched her acting career at age 5 with several national commercial spots. She went on to earn guest roles on series like Alice, St. Elsewhere and Who's the Boss?, and made her film debut in 1987's Some Kind of Wonderful.

'Full House'

Also in 1987, an 11-year-old Cameron Bure made her debut on Full House as D.J. Tanner, the eldest of three sisters in a household run by a widower (Bob Saget), with help from his brother-in-law (John Stamos) and best friend (Dave Coulier). Also featuring Jodie Sweetin and the first screen appearances of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen (as the same character), Full House showcased Cameron Bure's dry wit and charm and endured as one of TV's top sitcoms until wrapping its eighth and final season in 1995.

TV Shows and Films

During her Full House years, Cameron Bure also surfaced in films such as Punchline (1988) and sitcoms including Growing Pains. She went on to star in the

made-for-television movies No One Would Tell (1996), She Cried No (1996) and NightScream (1997), and appeared in episodes of Boy Meets World and Twice in a Lifetime.

In 2007, Cameron Bure returned to the small screen with a cameo on Disney's That's So Raven and also appeared in the feature film The Wager. With her re-entry into the acting world underway, Cameron Bure landed the prominent role of Summer Van Horne on ABC Family's Make It or Break It, a dramatic series about aspiring Olympic gymnasts that aired for three seasons.

The actress went on to compete on season 18 of Dancing With the Stars, notching a third-place finish with partner Mark Ballas.

Hallmark Movies

In 2008, Cameron Bure co-starred in the Hallmark Channel's Moonlight and Mistletoe, as a daughter who reconnects with her estranged father (played by Tom Arnold) and rediscovers the Christmas spirit. Thus began a lengthy partnership with Hallmark, with Cameron Bure signing on for 2013's Let It Snow and returning in subsequent years to headline such holiday features as Christmas Under Wraps (2014), Switched for Christmas (2017) and If I Only Had Christmas (2020).

Additionally, the actress joined Hallmark's production of The Aurora Teagarden Mysteries, adapted from the series by author Charlaine Harris, and starred as its titular librarian-detective for a string of TV movies that included A Bone to Pick (2015), The Julius House (2016) and Dead Over Heels (2017).

Co-Hosting on 'The View'

In August 2015 Cameron Bure announced she would join The View's 19th season, alongside the return of co-host Joy Behar and newcomer journalist Paula Faris. Weathering the scrutiny of being a conservative voice in a largely liberal environment, Cameron Bure garnered two Daytime Emmy nominations with the rest of her colleagues, before announcing her departure in December 2016.

“It wasn’t an easy decision, but before I started The View, I had already had my commitments to Fuller House and my work with the Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movies and Mysteries,” she said. “And because of the success of those, my commitments have become even greater with those shows.”

She also added, “The commute of going West Coast to East Coast every single week for me has been tough on me and hard for my family as well,” she said. “And I want to make sure that I’m able to spend as much time with my children and invest in all the projects that I do to the fullest extent.”

'Fuller House'

Nearly 30 years after Full House first aired on TV, Cameron Bure returned to her roots with the arrival of Fuller House on Netflix in 2016. Borrowing heavily from its predecessor, the spinoff featured Cameron Bure's D.J. as a widow and mother in her old childhood home, with Saget, Stamos and most of the rest of the original cast making regular appearances. The formula reeled in both nostalgic fans and those of a new generation, with Fuller House picking up wins at the People's Choice Awards and Kids' Choice Awards over the course of its five-season run.

Personal Life

During her Full House years, Cameron Bure attended a charity hockey game in which co-star Dave Coulier was playing. Coulier introduced her to Russian-born Valeri Bure, a professional NHL player. The two began dating, and were married in 1996. After their wedding, Valeri sent Coulier a hockey stick inscribed with the following: "Dear Dave, thank you for Candace."

In 1998, Cameron Bure gave birth to daughter Natasha. Son Lev followed in 2000. That same year, at the age of 24, she committed herself fully to the Christian ministry, and when son Maksim was born in 2002, Cameron Bure took a hiatus from her acting career to enjoy life as a wife, Christian and mother.

Books

Cameron Bure is the author of multiple books, including Reshaping It All: Motivation for Physical and Spiritual Fitness (2011) and Balancing It All: My Story of Juggling Priorities and Purpose (2013). She has also delved into children's fare with Candace Center Stage (2018) and Candace's Playful Puppy (2021).

Production Company and Wine Business

Cameron Bure is the co-founder of Candy Rock Entertainment, which focuses on developing family-friendly content.

The actress and her husband teamed to launch Bure Family Wines in 2006. After initially developing their product with purchased grapes, the couple went all-in by acquiring a two-acre vineyard in Napa Valley, California, in 2011.

Cameron Bure has also lectured and worked with philanthropic Christian organizations and has served as a columnist for Christian Women Online Magazine.
