Conor McGregor struck by vehicle while riding bicycle: 'I could've been dead'

Conor McGregor says he avoided serious injury on Friday after being hit by a vehicle while riding his road bike.

McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC), a former two-division UFC champion, took to Instagram to share footage of the aftermath of a what he claimed to be a high-speed collision between his bicycle and a vehicle.

Out of breath and sounding in a panic, McGregor posted a video of his damaged bicycle in the middle of the road, with broken pieces scattered. He said he was hit from behind after the “driver couldn’t see me” due to a the glare of the sun coming around a corner, but after contact was able to protect himself as he hit the ground.

“Mate that’s nasty,” McGregor said in the video. “I could’ve been dead there, mate. … Lucky to get away with me life there, boys.”

The driver of the vehicle, Nick, was clearly shaken by the encounter, as well. He said in the video that he “couldn’t see a thing” and was “so sorry” to McGregor, who brushed off the situation and made it sound as though he has no intention of pressing charges.

McGregor simply asked the driver to put his damaged bicycle in the trunk of the vehicle and give him a ride home, which he obliged to.

“The Notorious,” who hasn’t competed since a July 2021 loss to Dustin Poirier where he suffered a broken leg, is targeting a return to competition this year.

In recent days, McGregor has been teasing a coaching stint on “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series, and longtime rival Tony Ferguson claims he’s been offered a coaching spot opposite the Irishman.

Additionally, McGregor was in the news again earlier this week for something outside the world of fighting. The Irishman is under investigation for allegedly attacking a woman on board his yacht in Ibiza in Spain in July 2022. A McGregor rep issued a denial statement on McGregor’s behalf.
