I loved my experience at CSULB. I did get wait listed from the dorms during my freshman year, so I would like to see some more housing options for freshmen who aren't local to the area. However, the school did add another dorm building this last year, so that is nice to see that they are addressing the issue. I joined Greek life for 2 years and met some life long friends who are kind and down-to-earth. I have great relationships with a few of my psychology professors and I loved my experience working on campus as a research assistant and a teaching assistant. I think that the psychology program was pretty enriching and I feel that CSULB prepared me to tackle graduate school. Another thing that I would change would be the parking situation. If it were possible, I would love to see another parking structure to be constructed possibly near the library. Overall, CSULB is a great school for a phenomenal cost!
I am currently finishing my first year at California State University Long Beach and so far it has been an amazing experience! I thought college was going to be hard, it has been challenging at times, especially as a commuter, but overall it has been easy. I have passed all my classes so far, had nice professors, maintained a good GPA, and met new friends! My only complaint is the food and seating areas on campus. I wish there were more food options in the convenience stores and the restaurants. It would be nice to have different restaurants on campus for people who don’t drive. Also, I think there should be more seating areas. I have been able to look past those issues and I have had a surprisingly positive experience at CSULB!
CSULB can have several improvements. Parking for a semester was around 250+, 500+ for a year, with those payments, you’d at least except lots of parking availability but that’s not the case. The art building of the campus was in terrible shape, leaking, breaking, truly a hazard. The food choices weren’t the best, but they weren’t horrible (el pollo loco, subway, Starbucks, etc). Some days, the only escalators on the outside, were broken/stopped. I’ve reported assault I’ve witnessed before and was met with an officer who could care less, the person was still actively harassing others as they did nothing. Heard from others that they’ve experienced the same form of carelessness from officers. In my graduation year, 2024, despite COVID regulations no longer being necessary or needed, CSULB did not allow students to walk the stage. If it wasn’t for the cultural graduations, which are held by students, I would have not walked. My program had very great professors though, so it made it great.
