Spirit has been one of my favorite bands for many years. Their first 4-5 albums are masterpieces. This is latter day Spirit and not quite at level of those great albums. However the music is still very good and I enjoy it to this day. If you liked the first core albums I think you will like this. NOTE the music has been edited from the original release, synthesizers removed etc. A big improvement in my opionion but purists may be put off. If you just like music go for this version.
Simply put, if you are a Spirit/Blues lover get this. 28 tracks of the most unbelievable guitar playing anywhere. We lost a great guitarist. The production is top notch. Takes the original and strips it down to raw Blues. The extras are just not thrown in. This is one album Randy would be proud of. Thank you to the producers.
I echo everything "Frodo" says. He/she hits the nail right on the head. Randy California, Ed Cassidy and their associates continued to make vital and exciting music right up to the time of California's tragic death. There's over 158 minutes of music on this 2-CD collection - a real bargain.
Spirit's 1st 4 albums are among the finest of a vivid era, and the 1st 3 are my lifetime's most played. Since then there has been a shedload of material issued, some good, but mostly underwhelming. This is another release that illustrates that well. Cassidy, Locke, Ferguson, Andes and California are 100% proof Spirit. This collection is for obsessives like me, seemingly doomed to buy stuff in hope of finding the old magic. I hope Mr. Skidmore can uncover a live recording of the original band at their peak and polish that up for us.
Excellent album with a great mixture of tracks. Randy was one of the most underrated guitarists ever and proof of that is on this album. Also comes with an excellent live album. Recommended!
