Stetson softball split their doubleheader with Queens Thursday afternoon. The Hatters fell in the first game 4-3 before bouncing back with a 3-0 win behind
Lauren Hobbs throwing a complete game shutout.
In game one the Hatters had
Hannah Marien in the circle. She shut down the Royals through the first three innings. Stetson jumped on the scoreboard in the top of the second with
Nadia English sending one over the fence for her first collegiate home run. English added two more runs for the Hatters with a two RBI single making it 3-0.
The bottom of the fourth is where Marien started running into some traffic on the bases. Queens scored two runs off her before she was lifted for
Caitlyn Kulczyski . The Royals scored a run in the fifth to tie the game at three before walking it off in the bottom of the seventh.
To start game two, the Hatters didn't waste any time getting on the board.
Addison Foster singled down the left field line. She swiped second base and advanced to third on a wild pitch.
Madelyn Synoracki plated her with a single into center giving Stetson the 1-0 lead.
Stetson added another run in the top of the fifth.
Jordyn Stanfill singled to left field before
Michelle DiPuma was brought on to run for her. DiPuma stole second and Foster brought her home with a single to center giving the Hatters a 2-0 lead.
Hobbs worked efficiently through the first four innings and nn the bottom of the fifth she was able to work out of a second and third jam to keep Queens off the scoreboard.
The Hatters were able to tack on another run in the top of the sixth.
Lath Freeman singled to left and
Gia Napoli came on to pinch run for her.
Annabella McClerren singled and Napoli came around to score on a throwing error.
Hobbs struck out the side in the bottom of the sixth and finished off the seventh to earn her first shutout of the season.
Stetson and Queens will face off for the final game of the series at 10am on Sunday, April 28.
