The Style Council – Café Bleu

mine appears to be this pressing but on the back cover it has a box containing the text ‘promotional copy not for resale’ all in gold writing imprinted into the back cover. anyone else have this?

Side One is fantastic
Side Two isnt. A Gospel and Strength Of Your Nature are painful.

Though I no longer own it, I bought a copy of this when it came out. Except for the opening track being considerably louder than the rest of the album, the differences in sound quality between the SACD and the original 1984 CD were very subtle. Either way, it was a huge improvement on the brittle, overcompressed 2000 remaster.

I am amending my review. I received my record late, but I am enjoying it! The Style Council is great, and glad to receive this wonderful album.

Possibly the worst pressing in my collection. Extreme sibilance on multiple tracks, particularly Paris Match. Bass is nonexistent, even with the EQ cranked right up. It's as if no one ever tested it before sending it out. The other TSC coloured reissues sound far better. Avoid this entirely, unless you are desperate to complete the set of reissues.

Never really rated these guys at the time, now on second listen they put out some great tracks.

My copy is all same ID as the original but labels on both sides are plain white. Any Ideas? Agree a great listen.

In this edition the cover is made in W. Germany and the vinyl is made in Israel, it is common in those year by Phonokol to cut expenses.

This is a beautiful album, a timeless piece really that has a variety of styles, 13 tracks and not a bad one. Tight playing and well produced. You can pleasurably play this album front to back. Not sure why it is so plentiful and cheap. Grab it. A good copy.

A fail. I've tried three copies-- all suffered from sibilance, visible vinyl damage on side one track two, and surface noise that would not clean up. Such a great album. It sure deserved better.
